True to the company’s promise, the PlayStation Phone has been made official at Mobile World Congress by Sony Ericsson as the XPERIA Play.

The Android handset will come pre-loaded with Android 2.3 Gingerbread and will be powered by a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU when it launches, complete with the chip-maker’s Adreno 205 integrated GPU. The XPERIA Play will offer smartphone tasking and game playing on a 4-inch FWVGA 854 X 480 display, offering up to 60 frames-per-second refresh rates.

Rather than the typical landscape-oriented keyboard slider, the XPERIA Play will come with a PlayStation Certified game controller. In gaming mode, the device is said to offer 5 hours and 35 minutes of uninterrupted gaming on a single battery charge. The device will also come with the usual array of sensors and radios, along with a 5-megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash and stereo speakers.

To kickstart the platform, Sony Ericsson says that 50 titles will be available at launch from over 20 different studios. The device is coming in March as a GSM handset and will be a limited time exclusive on Verizon Wireless in the U.S. in early Spring.
