Verizon Announces Subsidized Xoom Pricing with Data Contract

Published

In addition to being able to buy the first Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet, the Motorola Xoom, contract-free for $799.99, Verizon Wireless will also be offering a subsidized version of the Flash-enabled tablet to customers.

The Motorola Xoom will be available for consumer purchase beginning on February 24th. With a two-year contract, the Xoom will be available for $599.99 with a data plan of at least $20 per month, which would net 1 GB of data at the lowest price.

At launch, the Xoom will be a 3G device that will operate on the carrier’s CDMA/EV-DO network, but Verizon is also promising that a free upgrade to 4G LTE could be obtained in the second quarter of the year.

The Xoom will be the first tablet to debut with Android 3.0, an operating system that Google says was built for and optimized for touchscreen tablets. Previous versions of Android were primarily designed for smartphones.
