HP TouchPad Priced Starting at $499?

Published

on

Slashgear is linking to a post on PreCentral that says the HP TouchPad will start at $499 for a 16GB model and $599 for a 32GB model when they are released in June. At least we think it will be June. That certainly puts it in line with the iPad 2. The info comes from a product release sheet from “major US retailer” so I’d take this with caution at this point.

Also of note, PreCentral says that HP will be dropping a 7 inch WebOS Tablet in September called the Opal. Or at least that’s the codename.

This is definitely good news… IF HP can get developers on board with the platform. I’m skeptical at bast on that condition but cool if they do.

On another matter, is there a way with the GBM RSS feed to filter out certain tags? For instance, on Gizmodo I can append /not-TAGHERE/ to the feed and block certain tags. I’m *REALLY* sick of iPad 2 news… especially since every site (this one included) just regurgitates the same opinions over and over.

Why oh why do manufacturers cling to the pricing model that they claim is “equal” to the iPad price and expect to succeed? No one (well, amost) will accept the explanation: “Yes, it is the same price as an iPad, but look what you get…” It just will not work. People are used to paying a PREMIUM for Apple devices, and now they can get the real thing (iPad) for the same price or less than the competition. OUCH! I’m sorry, but Apple has spanked the industry on this one, and at a lower price to boot.
