AT&T selling original iPad w/ 3G at up to $300 off

Published

Got an email from AT&T pushing the iPad Wi-Fi + 3G at a $200 discount. It’s the original 16GB model, not the new 2, but that’s still a good price cut. A better price cut though is $300, which is what they’re offering on the 64GB model.

While supplies last, a new 16GB iPad with 3G is $429, while the 64GB is $529. The 32GB is marked as sold out. That’s a better deal than Apple’s current clearance, even on refurbs. Of course, there are no cameras on these units and they are slower, but if you’re looking for deals, these are tough to beat. Seems strange that they’re pushing the $200 discount in the email and not the $300, but maybe that’s due to inventory differences.

Unless Facetime is a critical need, I’d be hard pressed to see why you’d not jump on this offer. Sure, teh A5 will be noticeably better as Apps tweak for it’s dual core processor and graphics – BUT – by the time those are perfected we’ll all be smitten with the rumors/specs of iPad 3, the real upgrade to iPad 1. So even if you factor in the decreased recovery on eBay for ancient technology like the iPad 1 (ha ha) the $300 savings will make that ipad 3 upgrade next year much more palatable. So step up and get another data sucking “i” device while you can. Besides, with AT&T squeezing us on all fronts with data plan caps (heaven help you if you have an iPhone, iPad, and AT&T DSL – even on supposedly “unlimited data” grandfathered iPhone accounts) we’ll just have to remember those immortal words from Animal House – “Thanks you sir. may I have another!”
