Miniot’s Wooden iPad 2 Cover Is A Gorgeous Alternative To Apple Smart Cover

Posted by | 03/24/2011 | 13 Comments

It looks like Apple’s Smart Cover for the iPad 2 might have some fierce competition from a product made by a company in Holland called Miniot.

Miniot iPad 2 Case

Miniot’s iPad 2 cover (via TUAW) is carved from a single piece of wood and not only does it look gorgeous but it’s also extremely useful. The cover acts in much the same way as Apple’s Smart Cover. It uses magnets to hold the case snugly to the device and opening and closing it will awaken or put the iPad 2 to sleep.

Where it differs from the Apple Smart Cover is how it supports the iPad 2 when folded. Instead of folding into a triangle, the Miniot cover folds into a cylinder which makes it perfect for watching videos or using it in portrait mode.  As you can see in the video, it works extremely effectively.

The case goes on sale tomorrow and personal engravings will, for the time being, be free. It will cost you €50 which equates to $70, the same price that Apple is selling their case for. Not a bad deal whatsoever for a case that is not only extremely handy but attractive as well.

Looks nice, but don’t leave it on the kitchen counter. Someone might use it for a cutting board!

It sure looks gorgeous: http://tinyurl.com/4pydu8b. I’d love to see them do a racing stripe version like thy did with their iPhone case, but I guess that would be impossible since it appears to be made from asingle piece of wood?! Anyway, I want one.

    • Topherific985

There is an option for stripes on their page

These guys are a SCAM. Their website directs you to their ebay store. Everything looks legit. I bought one on 3/31, and have not heard anything from them. Fours others have responded as well with the same problem. THIEVES!

On their website it states that it takes three weeks before it ships out and if you have any concerns just cancel the order and contact them. You can now order directly from their website.

they just contacted me, I purchased 1 on 03/16/2011 and its beed 5 weeks and the e-mail said its still another week out. Its not a scam….I used paypal and they have always made sure to follow up on scams….so relax and wait. I just got my ipad2 from verizon and I ordered them both on the same day. I will follow up when I recieved my cover. they also gave me an option of canceling my order…how many scamers do that!!!!!

which email did you use to contact them? my emails sent to iwood@miniot.com have always been bouncing. do they even have a phone number?

  • Michael

they seems to have a supply problem, I found this on Etsy.com while looking for a business card holder, it is wood and leather with magnets like Apple cover:http://www.etsy.com/shop/DFauberWoodsmith

Bad customer service though. I ordered on 20 may and still haven’t received mine yet. I emailed middle of June for them to tell me the payment had gone through and had cancelled the order. They didn’t get in touch when the payment bounced so I was just waiting for it to come, now I have ordered again, probably looking at 3 months from first order……buy elsewhere if you can.

I just got this case…real letter, Smart cover function, full body
protection. The site said they were hard to find, so I couldn’t  say if
    there are any left.
