Samsung Mesmerize Android 2.2 Update Now Available

Today is not a good day to be a Samsung Fascinate owner over on Verizon, but a good day to be a Samsung Mesmerize owner on U.S. Cellular.

A couple of days ago, Sprint rolled out the Android 2.2 Froyo update to its Galaxy S device, the Samsung Epic 4G. Only this wasn’t the first time the carrier had given Froyo to owners of the Epic. It was the second roll out.

That means that by the time Sprint was able to roll out its Galaxy S Froyo update, suspend it, fix the issues, and roll it out again, Verizon hadn’t even attempted to supply owners of its Galaxy S device, the Samsung Fascinate, with the new Froyo update.

Today another Samsung Galaxy S device, the Samsung Mesmerize for U.S. Cellular, has beaten Verizon to the punch. U.S. Cellular, in a statement on their Facebook page has announced that the upgrade is available and it’s available for download this very moment.

    I have been a Verizon customer for all my adult life and a cell phone user for 22 years. I own stock in the company but I am disappointed in that Froyo 2.2 has not become available for its users. Next time I upgrade my phone I may also change providers as well.

      If It truly is Samsung, why does the Mesmerize which is the exact same phone as the fascinate have froyo?

        Verizon take the customer support calls when a buggy release gets pushed, not Samsung. Vzw will hold back a release until they’re satisfied that it won’t cause a surge in support calls because support calls cost money. Also keep in mind Vzw needs to add Bing and their other proprietary (cr)apps – given the changes between Android 2.1 and 2.2 this maybe harder than they might have expected…

          Perhaps Verizon or Samsung should provide that information to their sales reps and customers then instead of maintaining silence on the issue. One reason there is so much resentment over the missing update is due to poor customer service managing the issue. Give the customer some indication that their concerns are important or risk losing them forever. I am currently researching alternative carriers and phones and have no plan to renew a contract with a company that has so little concern or respect for their customers.

    This whole situation has been extremely depressing ever since I first found out about it. I purchased a samsung fascinate after waiting about 3-4 hours in line last black friday after reading that not all android phones were to be easlily upgradeable to future android os releases but that the samsung galaxy s line up would be, but now i truly see that this is starting to turn out to be a half-lie or partial truth. While some are now finally receiving 2.2 (which is already old news anyways with 2.3 out and talks of 2.4 on the way), the samsung fascinate is not even received old 2.2. I’ve done extensive research, etc. about why this could have happened and while some say its more of a samsung-verizon business policy issue, etc., all in all its just horrible bad business (you can find out more via searching on google). So i think that not only i, but all samsung galaxy s owners should write or email samsung and perhaps even verizon (just so they know whats going on, although they already do) and let them know how messed up this situation has gotten. Because at least for me, I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER SAMSUNG SMARTPHONE EVER AGAIN and i highly suggest everyone else do their homework before considering purchasing one from them as well. I’ll just stick with the best companies so far in pushing out all these frequent android updates like HTC or Motorola.

    BEWARE of Samsung tablets – new ones just announced – why would I ever consider buying a Samsung tablet considering their track record with updates for Galaxy S phones and the Fascinate in particular. Also they are planning on messing with the OS again – they are going to put a Samsung User Interface (UI) overlay on top of the Android OS. I certainly would be cautious before ever buying a Samsung tablet and trusting Samsung (or Verizon) to appropriately handle Android OS upgrades. Buyer Beware.

      What do you mean? For the epic? Didn’t it just come out? I know someone who literally just downloaded it but my phone say no updates available >:(

        Yes they pulled it again. I got the prompt to update my Epic and I did,and my phone crashed the next morning. I haven’t even had the phone for a month. Luckily the sprint store was able to fix it. Ori would have been even more pissed. But tech support told me to hold off on reinstalling the update until they fix the bug. So I hope this helps someone.

    I HAVE A SAMSUNG EPIC… I AM NOT HAPPY WITH THE UPDATE! IT CHANGED EVERYTHING ON MY PHONE! RINGERS THAT I NEVER SET ARE SET .. RINGERS I HAD ARENT THERE… TABS I HAD TO OPEN UP CERTAIN THINGS DONT WORK ANYMORE HAD TO DELETE THEM… ITS LIKE I GOT A NEW PHONE ALL OVER AGAIN… VERY FRUSTRATING

      Take your phone the the closest sprint repair store. They will have to factory reset your phone, but if you don’t your phone will crash. I had to do it last week.

    The Fascinate is my second Samsung phone. As things stand right now I won’t be buying another one. It looks like I will have to depend on XDA for any updates until I get another device, but that’s not a problem from here it looks like there are better codeslingers at XDA than there are at Samsung anyway.

    Unbelievable how many of us are so upset, and so response from samsucks. We still have no information that leads us to believe an update is on its way.
    I charge you all to voice your opinions at samsung mobile usa live chat, so they have a record of our frustration (do it periodically), and if you like, its not out of the question to sell your device on ebay or craigslist… I know someone who got 300 dollars for her phone, because some people can’t wait for their upgrade.

    There are apps that are only for Froyo 2.2 I have to agree with the others on here that I will nover buy another Samsung product again.

    Verizon sales reps were given sales notes from Verizon management in which they assured buyers that 2.2 was coming “any day now”. In September when I was considering different phones, the V guy told me the device was preloaded with 2.1 but would likely update to 2.2 when it was activated. The Verizon reps in more than one local V store were all making this pitch.

    Samsung may have failed Verizon but our contracts aren’t with Samsung. We’re stuck paying Verizon big $$ each month for under performing devices and for Verizon’s un-kept promises.

    Imagine if you went to Best Buy or Staples and bought a laptop that their ads claimed could perform some function you needed. But when you got it home, you learned that the feature wasn’t supported on the laptop. From whom would you seek recourse? You wouldn’t blame Dell, HP or Apple etc for unsupported vendor promises would you? You would hold the vendor responsible and likely be able to make a return without penalty. Verizon has given us no such option. It has not stood behind the product it sold to us and a very expensive product at that.

    This and most blogs are populated by paid corporate shills. If you see an unreasonable Verizon defense, you should suspect that. Bloggers for hire are a growing job market.

    I’ve been a Verizon wireless customer since circa 1995 and was very pleased until now. This experience has soured me to an unimaginable degree. Unless they both upgrade to 2.2 and compensate me in some way for the diminished service, I’ll almost certainly try the new ATT/TMoblile option as soon as my early cancellation penalty is low enough to just swallow. I won’t stay in Verizon Facinate jail for the full two years.

    why are you getting mad when you knew before you bought the phone that it wasn’t going to get the 2.2 for a while. Just deal with it. I have a samsung and it works great. never had a problem.

    Well I love my samung Epic 4G. Other that this update that cause my phne to crash (which they also fized) I have neve had a problem. As for “Samsucks” I had a samsung “Moment” for over a year, without an update, and still never had an issue. I dnt think anyone on this board has ever created an operating system, or an update for one, so give these people a little time. Not only that but given the state of things in most of the asian countries, they have more important things to worry about. Also, I want my update just likethe rest of you, but I’ll gladly wait until they get it right.

    This update is a joke anyways! Would take 3-4 tries of people calling me before my phone would even ring after updating to this, downloaded the stock 2.1 files and put it back to how it was and work great now.

     I know it seems like you all are being unfairly treated with the Froyo release, seeing how I am on the other side of the coin you all should really be grateful that you have Verizon ensuring that you are able to have a flawless experience with the Froyo update rather than what other carriers’ customers are going through. As we saw with Sprint, it was released then taken back to be fixed and finally re-released. US Cellular has released theirs and it is crappy and now customers are waiting for a patch to fix issues that should have been worked out before the release was made public. So in my opinion “hats off” to Verizon for making sure that all of the kinks are worked out before it’s released. Would you rather have a Froyo update now and your phone constantly dropping calls, not getting messages, battery draining extremely fast, phone unable to be placed on silent mode, phone freezing, cutting itself off…. and all of the other problems/issues that people with Froyo updates are experiencing or just wait and have a Froyo update that actually works and does not cause secondary problems along the way.

    DO NOT ever buy Samsung anything unless you want to upgrade every year or continue to use outdated, unsupported and discontinued products. I was a happy Samsung phone owner (several over the last 10 years on different carriers) then bought a Samsung Moment (perhaps the name should have been a clue) only a couple of months after it became available. It has lagged behind with last update being 2.1 and now they have reverted the Market version back to as if the phone was Android 1.5! If you still have a functioning Samsung Moment with reasonably current version of Android Market DO NOT do a factory reset!!! If you do you will lose ability to access most apps in Android Market.

    can anyone tell me if there is a way to fix the screen shot when i hit the lock button on the side? its very annoying and makes me mad. it worked fine when i first got it. im beging to hate the phone. if anyone can tell me how that would be great. thanks!!
