Motorola Atrix 4G Update Available, No HUSPA Support Yet

Published

on

Motorola has made an update for the Motorola Atrix 4G, version 4.1.57, available, but unfortunately it won’t bring closure to those call quality issues or the lack of HUSPA support. Fortunately, it does bring a bunch of things that Atrix owners will be pleased about.

The update includes an improved multimedia experience with Bluetooth headsets, improved fingerprint reader performance, improved battery life, a fix that makes the screen automatically turn off when charging with a wall charger, a bunch of phone stability improvements including better touch responsiveness, as well as improvement with car docks.

Overall, this is a pretty handy update.

Atrix 4G owners who have gone ahead and rooted their device will be unhappy to learn that the update causes major problems with devices that are rooted. So, it looks like an unroot might be a necessary evil.

Here’s how to get the update on your phone, right now, if it hasn’t rolled out OTA already:

  1. Select the Settings icon in the main menu.
  2. Select “About phone”.
  3. Select “System updates”.
  4. Select “Download”.
  5. After the software is downloaded, select “Install”.
  6. After the software is installed, your phone will re-start automatically.
  7. Your phone is now updated with 4.1.57 software.

No, it’s not generally available…yet. Only to beta pre-order customers, apparently. I read about it on a forum this morning, but when I checked for updates, the system told me that my Atrix was “up to date,” even though I am running 4.1.26. So when do the rest of us become update-worthy?

Not working for me either. Says I’m up to date on 4.1.26 already.

I think Adam jumped the gun a bit. I’ve read in other reports that the update will be available tomorrow.

I am still getting the message “up to date” when checking for updates with my Atrix.

I just installed my update 15 minutes ago. The whole process takes about 7 minutes. So far so good!

Will the phone not update itself if you have your phone rooted?
