Amazon may launch its own Amazon Appstore for Android devices as early as March 22nd, according to a report by Wired. The Amazon-branded third-party app store will rival Android’s native Google Android Market on most Android devices. In addition to carrying third-party Android titles, Amazon is looking to differentiate its model from Android Market by [...]

The Octavo from Pad & Quill is a premium case for the iPad 2 that looks like a beautiful leather bound book. The case is one of the first third-party cases that features a magnetic on/off switch just like the Apple Smart Cover. As a folio style case it will shut off the display when closed. Opening [...]

We’ll be live in Orlando, Florida this week to bring you the best and latest from the CTIA Wireless 2011 conference, but ahead of show-time, we’re hearing leaks of what Sprint will announce. From the looks of it, Sprint will most likely steal the show with an aggressive lineup of WiMax 4G-capable devices, including a [...]

While Archos has been making a number of portable media players–tablets and music listening devices–that run on the Android operating system, none of those systems released to date come with mobile broadband 3G access, placing Archos at a disadvantage against players like Samsung’s Galaxy Tab and Motorola’s Xoom Honeycomb tablets. That’s about to change as [...]

Interesting news for a Sunday afternoon. AT&T is announcing that they will purchase T-Mobile USA for $39 billion in cash and stock. The deal is expected to take 12 months to complete. Given that this would make AT&T the largest US carrier by far, most expect the Feds to sniff around this deal before it [...]

The HTC Thunderbolt’s 8MP camera is pretty impressive, at least for a mobile phone. The images shot with the Thunderbolt are crisp and could easily pass as being shot with a point-and-shoot camera, as long as they’re shot with plenty of light. Will the HTC Thunderbolt replace a high-quality point and shoot or DSLR? Absolutely [...]

Adobe has just sent out a PR advisory, and we were able to confirm it on Android Market, that Adobe Flash Player 10.2 is now available for download on Android devices. Android 2.2 Froyo devices that previously were qualified for Adobe Flash 10.1 will be compatible with Flash Player 10.2, but won’t benefit from some [...]

Got an email from AT&T pushing the iPad Wi-Fi + 3G at a $200 discount. It’s the original 16GB model, not the new 2, but that’s still a good price cut. A better price cut though is $300, which is what they’re offering on the 64GB model.

The HTC Thunderbolt’s 4G LTE connection is blazing fast, but all that speed comes at a price. After using the HTC Thunderbolt for a day, I’m disappointed in its real-world battery life and benchmark results. How to Get Better HTC ThunderBolt Battery Life For most of the day yesterday I battled against low battery warnings [...]

The iPad 2‘s Gyroscope allows for more precise motion controlling in games like Real Racing HD, but as my son found out during a windy car ride, the gyroscope is greatly affected by real life car driving. The game in question is Real Raching HD ($6.99), a racing sim game that uses the iPad 2 [...]

We also have a look at how to claim your Facebook.com email address if you want to be able to use your Facebook Messages as another inbox. Kicking off the day are the new Dell Inspiron R series [...]

Tablets are not designed to do any one thing. They are supposed to be multimedia, multi-task devices that can take your regular computing tasks on the road. Some devices do a better job at certain tasks than others, but for the most part the major brands offer a large number of options for just about [...]

Apple is running a new TV commercial that calls out the competition and stresses the simplicity of the App Store. Instead of presenting specs or geeking out, Apple once again keeps it simple and gives viewers a taste of how the iPhone can make everyday tasks a little easier in the real world. The new [...]

The third-party Amazon Appstore for Android will be competing squarely with Google’s native Android Market for Android smartphones and tablets. How will Amazon fare compare to Google, which holds a dominant position in providing Android users with a way to download third-party apps right now? Pretty good, in fact, as the newcomer has managed to [...]

AT&T iPhone jailbreakers who tether up need to be aware. AT&T is cracking down on tethering now that the carrier has finally decided to make tethering a possible revenue stream. Apparently AT&T is sending messages to those who are tethering without the plan saying that you have until March 27 to get on the plan [...]

After announcing the new Android-powered Samsung-made Sidekick 4G, T-Mobile is showing off what the carrier is dubbing its first touchscreen Sidekick complete with a new sliding mechanism rather than the pop and rotating slider of old. The device will utilize the same Samsung 1 GHz single-core Hummingbird CPU that’s found on devices like the Galaxy [...]

I cannot express the spark of hope I felt when I opened my feeds this morning and read the headline “How Microsoft Will Revamp Office For Tablets” from Business Insider. Here I thought, even in the wake of the iPad, we would continue to see no concessions made… and I was right.

Leaked case designs for what is said to be for the iPhone 5 suggests that Apple’s unannounced next-generation flagship smartphone will be a modest upgrade from the iPhone 4. The cases show contours and curves that appear to match the exterior design aesthetics of the iPhone 4 indicating that if the leaked cases are real [...]

The T-Mobile Astound, which is widely believed to the the Nokia C7 model re-badged for the U.S. carrier, will be coming April 6th for a mere $80 on contract. As a more budget-conscious smartphone that features some nice high-end features, the Astound will only be a 3G smartphone and won’t support T-Mobile’s 4G HSPA+ network. [...]

It looks like the tablet designs that Nokia had patented back in 2010 could be for a Maemo 6 device that straddles the space between smartphone–like the Nokia N8–and tablet. It’s unclear how Maemo 6 will shape up to be or what form factor the OS will appear on, but it’s interesting to hear Nokia [...]

T-Mobile USA and LG are expected to be announcing the retail availability of its latest G-franchise which consists of the G-Slate, a re-badged version of the Optimus Pad, and the LG G2X, which is expected as a re-branded version of the LG Optimus 2X. The anticipated announcement may happen next week at the CTIA tradeshow, [...]

In a recent video for LG, the 3D capabilities of the LG G-Slate for T-Mobile USA were shown off with the dual cameras on the back. The video also highlights some of the other features of the device, including some of the new features of the Android 3.0 Honeycomb operating system. The LG G-Slate will [...]

While Motorola had recently confirmed the release and pricing for the WiFi-only model of the 32 GB Android 3.0 slate, the company hasn’t really said when customers can begin to order or pre-order the Xoom other than to say it will be available come March 27th for $600. Now, thanks to pre-order pages on retailers [...]

After reports earlier this week saying that Apple would not be incorporating near field communication (NFC) technology on the latest iPhone 5 anticipated to be released this summer, the latest report from a Forbes editor says that the next-generation flagship phone will indeed come with NFC support. Near field communications is a type of RFID [...]

Sprint is releasing an update to its first 4G mobile hotspot router called the Overdrive. The new model, dubbed the Overdrive Pro 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot Router, is an incremental upgrade from the original model and provides some refinements and a lower price tag. The new Overdrive Pro is still made by Sierra Wireless and will [...]

The HTC Thunderbolt is Verizon’s first 4G LTE phone and it is ridiculously, blazingly fast. It is hands down the fastest phone I’ve ever laid hands. I’ve been using the HTC Thunderbolt since I picked it up this morning and I still can’t believe how quickly it downloads and uploads data on 4G LTE. Here’s [...]

We are not surprised to see that someone has taken the iPad 2, even with a less that stellar camera, and shot an entire music video using nothing but the iPad 2. The group is called Eddy and their song is Need which you can download for free at the band’s site. To get the [...]

If you just got a shiny new Apple iPad 2, we recommend getting some protection for the thing. We’re not talking about a case, but a warranty or insurance plan to cover it in case of accidental damage or malfunction. While Apple covers manufacturing defects for the first year, they don’t cover accidental damage like [...]

If you’ve got an iPad 2 with a smart cover, a fun trick you might want to try is sticking it to your refrigerator. 9to5 Mac reports it worked well with one of theirs, which was later confirmed by Gizmodo. Our own Josh Smith found it less than secure, however, so maybe try it near [...]

It seems as if we just looked at a brand new MacBook Pro and the iPad 2, but we are already turning our sights to the next apple refresh which is likely to be a new MacBook. We also round up a collection of outdoor notebook accessories, point you to some new Sony VAIO and Samsung notebooks [...]

Part of the benefit of getting a 3G-capable iPad or iPad 2 is the ability to use the assisted GPS function of the mobile broadband chipset to get turn-by-turn driving directions and acquire location coordinates, useful for location-based services (LBS). However, it seems that if you’ve bought into the Apple ecosystem and possess an iPhone [...]

After much speculations and many rumors and leaks, Motorola has finally announced a WiFi-only edition of its Android 3.0 tablet called the Xoom. The company initially launched a 3G-capable model for Verizon Wireless just prior to the Apple iPad 2 launch; that model will be eligible for a 4G upgrade for free in the future, [...]

Just curious. If the reports/rumors are true that Asus may be launching a Google Chrome Netbook somewhere between $200 and $250 does that interest you? The fad that was Netbooks has certainly died down quite a bit as the industry tries to deal with its love affair with Tablets (or is that an affliction?). Oh, [...]

We had reported on a leaked image of the Motorola Droid 3 earlier, and now we have a clearer idea of what the keyboard looks like. The Droid 3 will retain the sliding form factor in landscape mode that’s been a hallmark of the Motorola Droid 1 and Droid 2 on Verizon Wireless. The Droid [...]
