Maverick: A Flying Car for Everyone

Published

on

Flying cars have been a symbol of the future for decades. The Maverick flying car will soon hit the market and it’s designed to be as easy to fly as it is to drive a car with an automatic transmission. It’s primarily designed for humanitarian missions, but the guys at I-TEC are going to be selling them here in the U.S. so they can spin up production and funds to support projects south of the border.

The Maverick flying car cruises at about 40mph in flight, but drives like a roadster when it’s earthbound. It can zip from 0-60mph in just 3.9 seconds, which puts it on par with some of the most expensive sports cars in the world.

The Maverick is designed to take off and land in tight confines, which means an airport isn’t necessary. According to Steve Saint, the brains behind this vehicle, all you need is a flat patch of earth about the length of a football field to get up in the air or land.

Finally, a flying car for everyone…at least those with about $84,000 to spare.

More info over at EAA and Maverick LSA.

Thanks to GBM founder Rob Bushway for the tip!

It would be quite a way to avoid Vegas traffic next year. I’ll start saving up.
