ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Already Sold Out in U.S.

Published

on

Today is launch day for the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer here in the United States and unfortunately, within several hours, this thing is now proving impossible to find as it has sold out at several major retailers including Amazon, Best Buy, Target and Newegg.

ASUS Eee Pad Transformer at Best Buy

For those unfamiliar with the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer, it’s an extremely affordable Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet that comes with an assortment of features that make its $400 price tag very attractive.

What features you ask? Oh, just a 10.1″ WXGA IPS touch-screen display, 1GB LPDDR2 memory, a 16GB EMMC hard drive, NVIDIA Tegra 2 graphics, built-in 1.2MP webcam with microphone, and Wi-Fi capabilities, along with Android 3.0 of course.

It also capable of Windows 7 remote desktop connectivity as well which allows you to control your PC with the Eee Pad Transformer.

Amazon was said to be sold out in minutes and it looks like other retailers have followed suit meaning ASUS probably has a shortage of iPad 2 proportions on its hands. Or worse. We’ll keep an eye out for availability but right now, it appears to be out of stock virtually everywhere.

Were any of you able to get one?

Asus eee pad transformer is done. Ipad 2 -esque shortages? No, it’s much worse. People should either go to the ipad2 or a different android tablet vendor.

I’ve been to two BestBuy locations in NE Ohio and employees at both locations were clueless to if they were getting any. Not surprisingly, they had no idea what was going and barely knew what the device was.

I live in Edmonton, Canada and I got mine today, but there are only few stores in town selling the Transformer, I got mine at Memory Express and they only had 2 or 3 so I bet they’re all gone by now. Nobody had the docking station on sale so I ordered mine on Amazon.ca but it’s also sold out so I’ll have to wait a couple weeks maybe. I can say that so far this tablet has impressed me a lot. I’m so glad I was able to get mine today. I’m already reading e-books using Kindle for Android and playing SNES games using SNESoid. Cheers!

Of course the questions are begged…
Did they have a lot and sell out immediately?
Or – did they have 2 and sell out immediately – meaning it is more about poor availability than high demand?

I would easily believe either one, or a combination of both. It is a tasty looking treat for a good price.

Either way it should make ipad2 flinch because the android tablets seem lined up and coming like a steady train at this point, with some leaks starting to show some interesting variations with styli and/or docking stations, etc…

A lot of the reviews point out some deficiencies with android or bits and pieces of hardware.
But android is nothing if not flexible and fast-moving.
And ipad cameras are not so hot either.
