Published

HTC ThunderBolt owners will be happy to hear that Verizon has announced that an update will be rolling out to the device tomorrow, an update that will bring several welcomed improvements and bug fixes.

HTC ThunderBolt

The update apparently will be rolling out OTA but it looks like Big Red will offer the ability to manually install the update as well. Here is what the update is going to be bringing to HTC ThunderBolt owners:

  • Enhance data connectivity when accessing the Verizon 3G network
  • SMS and MMS messages are stored properly in the Messaging Application (Inbox, Sent, etc.)
  • Timing for device activation has been improved
  • “Backup Assistant” is correctly displayed in the Application menu.
  • Stability improvements for data centric applications such as Facebook, KAYAK, Yahoo! Mail, My Verizon and more.
  • Accurate location is displayed when accessing the Weather Widget.
  • Quickly load GPS updates for Google Maps and VZ Navigator.

While it’s no Android 2.3 Gingerbread, which is said to be coming sometime either in May or June, it certainly brings some good stuff to the table.

For those that would like more information about the update, be sure to head here and check out all of the official details.

Debating between this and the Droid X. Decisions, decisions.

Got em both and can honestly say, I am thinking of returning my Tbolt and sticking with the Droid X till the dual core Moto releases. My Tbolt is nice, but the battery life sucks and I am having issues with the Bluetooth and my Ford Sync system! My X has worked flawlessly for everything I do. Once LTE hits my market, Fort Wayne, IN, later this summer I may change my tune, but by then there will be 4-5 newer, better phones already anyway.

I think the thunderbolt is amazing other than a couple glitches and the battery, if you buy the extended battery and buy the case for the extended battery on htcpedia.com I believe it is then you should be just fine with anything you want to do on this phone, I play music constantly for 5 hours, multiple hours of web suffering, and lots of games and I text nonstop and I call a pretty good amount amd this battery at the end of the day is at about 4 or 5 of its 10 bars total the stock battery sucks. This phone is just insanely fast on 4g and even when it isn’t it is still pretty good because I have done both.

You don’t need to buy an extended battery. Root your phone and install SetCPU from the Market. This is will lower the CPU speed when certain criteria are met (e.g. CPU speed lowered when screen turns off). I have seen at least a 25 percent increase in battery life after doing this, possibly even higher.
