Google continued with the Google I/O announcements today and unveiled their movie service for Android devices called Google Movies.

Google Movies

Google Movies will allow Android device owners to snag movies straight from the Android Market and prices of those movies will start as low as $1.99. Once downloaded, there is a 30-day rental period and once started, owners have 24 hours to watch the movie. Google states that there are thousands of movies already on the market right now and there will surely be more to come in the future.

The movies can either be streamed from the cloud or they can be installed locally for those that wish to view selections offline. Google also stated that there are two different Google Movies apps, one for smartphones and one for tablets, but unfortunately, it looks like Xoom owners will be the only ones able to get a hold of the app today.

With Android 3.1, Verizon Motorola Xoom will be able to get access to the movies on the market right now. Android phones with Android 2.2 or higher will have to wait a couple of weeks before you can throw down your cold hard cash for movie rentals through Google.
