Windows Phone 7 to be Number 2 OS by 2013, Not 2015 Thanks to Nokia

Published

While analysts have originally predicted that Windows Phone 7 will be the leading smartphone OS, beating out Android, by 2015, recent research from Pyramid is predicting that the Microsoft mobile operating system will beat the original date by two years thanks in large part to the partnership with Nokia.

While Android will continue to grow beyond 2013, its growth will slow down compared to the skyrocketing surge in 2010 and 2011. Even though WP will maintain the leadership from 2013 through 2015, the battle with Android will be fierce going forward and will result in many overtakings and ties between the two operating systems going forward – all at the expense of iOS and BlackBerry, which will experience a losing streak. While RIM and Apple are powerful players in the smartphone market, their desire to limit their mobile operating systems to their own hardware has antagonized large manufacturers, such as Samsung, LG and Nokia, who have the capacity to enjoy the benefits of economies of scale and whose devices account for an overwhelming portion of the smartphone market.

According to Pyramid Senior Analyst Stela Bokun, Windows Phone 7 should be picking up momentum and experiencing huge growth rates. Coupled that with Nokia’s ability to deliver phones–and Windows Phone 7 devices–at multiple price points in multiple countries, Windows Phone 7’s adoption should increase substantially. If Nokia could repeat what it had done to create huge economies of scale with Symbian to gain the top phone and smartphone maker spot with Windows Phone 7, it could help Microsoft rise to the top as well.

Bokun also notes that the Android’s advantage of having multiple manufacturers create different hardware using its OS is removed since Microsoft also licenses its OS to other manufacturers besides Nokia.

Gains made by Windows Phone 7 in market share comes at the cost of iOS and BlackBerry.

What a load of crock! When was the last time you had a Nokia phone? They’re no longer a dominant player, and neither is Microsoft (for phones). Microsoft has always done well with desktop platforms, and they’re making huge strides in gaming, but they’ve always been a follower when it comes to PDAs/phones/MP3 players and other small devices. Microsoft’s only shot is buying RIM and capitalizing on corporate level phones (though most people I work with are pushing our IT to drop the mandate for BlackBerry as iPhones and android devices are getting better security features).

Seems you are completely oblivious to the actual massive volume of phones that Nokia sells. Yes the very American approach of Microsoft with its lack of Asian language support for Windows Phone wreaks of incompetence, Nokia knows how to sell phones globally. The icrap has had its day, the one and only feature being a smooth interface has been way outdone by Windows Phone. Any IT manager that drops Blackberry for icrap should be fired. Blackberry will no doubt continue to bleed market share before jumping on board with Microsoft while the Blackberry brand is still trusted. They can focus on enterprise software and cloud offerings while Microsoft does the OS. If that happens there will be another massive surge in Microsoft share. Android is a joke, compare a Windows Phone device next to Android and an ijoke and you’ll see why Microsoft has got it right this time.

WP7 is an amazing os, its more modern and fluid than any other os on the market. Even critics are pleasantly surprised at how good it is. I have the DELL VENUE PRO and its the best phone ive ever had and ive had android (Nexus S running 2.3 version) and iphone 4 for two weeks apart on trial bases providing i didnt use too much airtime after which i returned both of them they are great phone but wp7 better suited my needs. I had to get rid of samsung phone due to water damage when i fell into an indoor pool .

I found a few articles from tech critics because so many people online are quick to bash wp7 with even trying it. Microsoft have screwed up plenty before but they made a great os. Even tech critics who owns both the latest android and iphone devices thinks so read their reviews.

Here we are on the cusp of 2015, LOL. Two failing companies in the mobile sphere just end up making and even bigger shiny turd. Overtake Anroid, please. Ever since their WP7 release when they had a funeral for Android and iOS, their blind arrogance has never given way to anything but a ‘me to’ OS.
