Verizon Pushes Software Update to Samsung Droid Charge Prior to Launch

Update: Early initial testing shows that performance has been improved tremendously and that most of the issues related to lags seem to be resolved. Keep an eye out on this space and we’ll update you with more of our findings through continued use and testing.

On the eve of consumer availability of the Samsung Droid Charge, Verizon Wireless has just pushed a software update to the device. The update was just spotted on our Droid Charge review unit, and we’re installing it right now as this post is being published. It’s unclear what issues the update will fix, but perhaps the update, which either will be pushed out right away to new phones upon activations, or are shipping with new devices, have resolved whatever issues that plagued the ‘delay of the Charge’s original launch date.

The launch delay was attributed to various reasons in the past, and some have speculated that a problem with the device’s 4G radio causing interference with Verizon’s LTE network was the culprit of the delay, though we didn’t experience any 4G anomalies in the time we’ve had our test unit. Another more recent speculation to the delay posits that the Droid Charge may have odd charging behavior, though again we didn’t experience that problem either on our test unit. Verizon Wireless has been less than transparent about the delays of it’s 4G LTE devices, only to say that they’re coming by mid-year. Whatever the case may be, to eager and hopeful Droid Charge owners, the delay’s finally over.
