The Samsung Infuse 4G is an Android 3G smartphone that is currently available for AT&T. The Infuse 4G was unveiled all the way back at CES in Las Vegas in January and with its huge 4.5 inch display, it became  one of the most anticipated smartphones for those that not only love big screens but also love to watch media on-the-go.

The Infuse 4G is a part of AT&T’s new found dedication to providing high quality Android smartphones to its customers and joins a stable that already includes the HTC Inspire 4G, the Motorola Atrix 4G and will soon include the upcoming LG Thrill.

Samsung Infuse 4G Release Date

The Samsung Infuse 4G was released just a couple of days ago on May 15th after Samsung held a press conference on May 5th confirming the date. We had known since April that the Infuse 4G would be hitting shelves at some point in May so it wasn’t surprising when AT&T and Sammy made the announcement.

It’s currently available through AT&T and a number of retailers including Amazon and Best Buy.

What is the Samsung Infuse 4G?

The Samsung Infuse 4G is being billed as the nation’s thinnest 4G smartphone and it measures in with a design that is 8.99mm thin at its thinnest part. Its form factor along with its massive 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen makes it one of the most interesting Android phones on AT&T.

And while it might not have a dual-core processor, it does have a speedy a 1.2GHz Hummingbird processor and out of the box, it’s powered by Google’s Android 2.2 Froyo software with an upgrade to Gingerbread more than likely coming in the future. It also comes with Samsung’s TouchWiz 3.0 UI over the top of it.

It also has a massive 1750 mAh lithium ion battery and two cameras (rear is 8MP and front is 1.3MP) which, along with the rest of the specs, make the Infuse 4G an extremely attractive device.

Samsung Infuse 4G Features

4.5-Inch Super AMOLED Plus Display: The 4.5-screen is the biggest you’ll find on a smartphone and the Infuse’s display uses Samsung’s new AMOLED Plus display which means it has better contrast then most displays out there. Super AMOLED Plus means that it has 50% more sub-pixels than a regular Super AMOLED display. That means that the Infuse 4G’s screen has crisper edges, images and is more visible in bright lights.

Thin Design: Again, it’s 8.99mm thin at its thinnest point, which makes the Infuse one of the thinnest smartphones on the market, only rivaled by the Samsung Galaxy S II which is a mere 8.49mm thick. The Infuse 4G is the thinnest “4G” phone on the market.

Special Edition of Angry Birds: The Infuse 4G comes pre-loaded with a special version of Angry Birds that has an exclusive hidden level.

Samsung Infuse 4G Pricing

The price of the Samsung Infuse 4G will vary from retailer to retailer but if you want to get it through AT&T, the Infuse 4G will cost you $199 with a new two year contract. Amazon currently has the device available for $150 on a new two year contract.

Samsung Infuse 4G vs. Motorola Atrix 4G vs. HTC Inspire 4G

Those of you looking to get an Android phone on AT&T have probably been looking at three devices. The Infuse 4G, the Atrix 4G and the Inspire 4G. If we’re looking at this purely from a spec perspective, the Atrix 4G is probably the winner here.

It has a dual-core Tegra 2 processor while the other two only have a single-core processor. The Infuse has a 1.2GHz processor while the HTC Inspire 4G has a 1GHz Snapdragon processor. The Atrix also has a qHD screen which has better resolution than both the Inspire and Infuse. However, it’s the Super AMOLED Plus display is arguably as good.

The Atrix 4G also has 1GB of RAM, something the other two can’t boast of. So if you need a beast of a phone and one whose hardware will stay relevant for quite awhile, the Atrix 4G might be the way to go. Keep in mind though, the Infuse has a huge battery which is nice if you are constantly on the go and the Inspire has the cheapest price point of the three. It’s been available for as low as $30 on a new contract.
