Droid X Gingerbread Update Available for Manual Update on June 1

Published

While Verizon Wireless will begin to start pushing out its Droid X Gingerbread updates in waves to users starting tomorrow, May 27th, users who don’t receive notification to download and install the update right away would have to wait a week to manually pull the update from their smartphones. The option to manually update the phone would be available on June 1st.

Android users are able to get their updates delivered over the air where they can download the update and install it on their smartphones without being connected to a computer. Traditionally, Android updates are delivered in batches to not strain the network or system, so some users may see the update appear before others, and if you don’t see the update being pushed to your phone where a notification will alert you install, you can begin to manually check the system to see if an update is available to your device.

In the case of the Droid X’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread update, what you would want to do is hit the Settings physical button from the homescreen, scroll to the bottom of the list and select ‘About phone,’ and hit System Updates. If there’a n update available to you, you can download it manually that way.

Over time, if you don’t care enough to get the Gingerbread update right away, it would eventually get pushed to you if you don’t manually check and aren’t notified right away.

@Chuong, Have you heard anything about any other phones getting the GB update, Like the Droid 2 Global, etc..  If so please let me know, thanks!
Also out of all the new VZW phones, which one would you get, or would you keep the wait going?
