Published

on

Today is the day HTC EVO 4G owners as Sprint has made the EVO’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread update available for manual installation as promised and from the looks of things, the update is a massive one.

HTC EVO 4G

Those who have seen the update say it’s around 110MB, so be prepared to wait a little bit while the software is installed. So, what exactly does the update bring that makes it so big?

Well, besides bringing Gingerbread, it’s going to bring some fixes and improvements to the EVO 4G that many owners have been waiting for including the ability to sync multiple Gmail accounts, display email attachments in the email client and it will also fix battery discharge issues.

For those that wish to install it today, and that probably means most of you, this is what you’ll want to do to attempt to get the update:

Home screen -> Menu -> Settings -> System updates -> HTC software Update

That should get you on the path to Gingerbread. If you don’t want to install today, you can always wait until June 6th when Sprint pushes the update out over the air.

We’ve heard about some issues with Sprint’s servers, how was the installation process gone? And for those of you who have installed the update, how is it?

Installed with no problems. Can’t tell much yet but appears to be faster and some of the screens have crisper fonts and images that are used.

its just the little improvments that make it better. some new texting abilities like the “is this ur last place” thing makes texting a little more understandable and intuitive. Screens and apps now fade out and its just a lot faster. I wish netflix worked though. great update but I did have a problem downloading it at 2:00 in the morning because I couldnt wait to download it. I think thats why though. I think its awesome in every needed way.

So far so good. The images on the screens appear crisper, there is a new fade in feature when you hit the home button and gosh darnit, the battery seems to last longer. I like the new download app where I can now see all my recent downloads. I’ll provide an update after a month or so.

My home launcher(stock) keeps crashing and resetting 95% of the time I hit the home button or use the back button to get to the home screen. Help!  This thing is almost unusable!

i started to really like the fast boot but then i started noticing problems with gingerbread, when i try to playback a video that i recorded it would start lagging and then stop playing but all u could hear is just the audio, my phone would crash and reset sometimes, i would get text messages that have a different time than from when i get them, my camera would stop working which really bothers me because then i would have to reboot it, and supposedly its suppose to last longer but my battery actually runs out faster than before :'( the evo needs a big time fix for all of those things.
