Apps for Google TV Platform Imminent?

Published

on

It looks like applications access for Google’s Google TV platform, which runs on a modified build of Android, may be coming soon as hinted by Google’s latest actions on Android Market. Visiting the web portal for Android Market (market.android.com), users are now greeted with not just all the Android smartphones they own to which they can push, purchase, or download apps for from the Android Market app store, but also Google TV is listed as an option. The Google TV listing suggests that the device may soon get official app support, though  it’s still unclear when soon may be.

At Google I/O in May, Google had promised that Android 3.1 Honeycomb will make its way to Google TV this summer, unifying Google’s TV and tablet platforms. With Android 3.1 Honeycomb, Google TV will get app access, and the Google TV listing in Android Market may be a precursor to the official launch of Android Honeycomb for Google TV.
