Nokia Announces Release Date for Symbian Anna for N8, E7, C7, C6 Smartphones

Nokia has finally unveiled shipping dates for the release of its Symbian^3 Anna software update for current devices, including the Nokia N8, E7, C7, and C6 smartphones. While the software is pre-loaded on newer devices that have just begun to ship–like the Nokia X7 and Nokia E6–current flagships have to wait for Anna to hit. The N8, E7, C7, and C6 will officially ship with Anna pre-loaded out of the box in July, according to Nokia, and current owners who have bought devices without Anna will have to wait until the end of August for a software update to roll out.

Symbian Anna brings a new visual look to the operating system with new bubbly icons, which are reminiscent of Samsung’s TouchWiz icons. Additionally, beyond the skinning, there are also a number of new improvements to Anna, including a portrait-oriented full QWERTY keyboard, better browser, updates to Ovi Maps, and a new social messaging client:

One of the most anticipated enhancements in Symbian Anna is split screen view while typing, so users can see their message thread. There is also virtual portrait QWERTY for quick, one handed typing. And the web browser is faster and easier to use, delivering quicker page loads and improved navigation.

Ovi Maps has been refreshed with simpler and quicker search, new public transportation routes and check-in to Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare or local social networks. You can also share places via email and SMS, even with friends using non-Nokia phones.

Business users will benefit from instant messaging with Microsoft Communicator Mobile, email enhancements including full meeting request support, and true business grade security with hardware accelerated encryption. There is also easy and secure intranet access for people who want to get on their company intranet.

The social client has been improved as well. Now you can see people’s status updates in their contact card, as well as retweet and view your follower list in Twitter.

The Nokia N8 was previously said to receive a special build of Symbian Anna that will unlock better video recording capabilities.

After the Anna software update, users will have Symbian Belle to look forward to.

Though Nokia will be shifting to Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 platform as its mainstream platform of choice for mobile, the company is still dedicated to Symbian and will be releasing up to 10 new Symbian devices in the next 12 months.

    It’s about time …
Despite all the negative reviews/criticism about N8 , actually I starting to like my N8 , Symbiam 3 isn’t that bad at all , and with the introduction of Anna , I believe Nokia finally has put all the pieces together . Better late than never !

I bought N8 but I am very disappointed you cannot use social networking features (face book update and contacts sync) in pure wifi mode i.e. without sim card or in offline mode… that is bummer all phones including android and windows7 do that seamlessly.  The reason when I am travelling internationally I want to use these features by just using wifi….. I am so very disappointed

Go to Settings -> Connectivity -> Settings and set everything to WLAN only. I;m not sure about FB, but Contacts Sync can be done over wifi, for sure.

it’s cool to see people “disappointed” in their phones considering that they clearly can’t read the manual for shit. of course you can’t use those if your settings aren’t properly done. go buy a simpler phone for a more simplistic life span.

CORRECTION… you can do all that and more…..
        cause I do it.,
and you can use wifi in offline mode cause I do………….
so what are you trying to say??????
or are you just another lier who says that they have the nokia n8 but dont, and just like to bash it……
because none of what you are saying is true…..
        infact its ABSURD….

The sad thing about the social app is that it is sim card dependant. Not too sure why, but my social app works well in America but once I’m in Japan I cna’t use it. I think it is that way becauseit has to go through the Nokia Ovi and by being sim card dependant it allows for adding location etc. It is silly not sure if Anna fixes that, I will check on myother phone later and report back.

That`s really dose not make any sense, they have N8 loaded with Anna on July inside shipping box, and me who was owner for like 5 month already have to wait until end of August, how is it possible could be explainable to somebody? I mean for real, it`s just making me more angry on nokia. In this time they really net to speed up in order to be on same level with others company! This days you just can`t make updates once in half year, there too much is going on to be so slow. At least they were have to do it portionaly, so if number of features ready – release it, so people would start to think that you care. They could wait with camera calibration for new update. Browser, qwerty, lug free, that is what we can get right now, everything else i could wait. I`m wondering who is such a brainier in Nokia that he managed to make so many owners N8 so angry for just year and keep making mistakes.

Could be because of Sony Erricson releasing their new Mini Pro, which is a really nice little phone.

I saw Bella OS on Nokia N8 with one friend working in Nokia. He told me that Bella has already less bugs than Android. However, they plan to install it on Nokia phone after maybe 5 or 6 months or more! We r waiting Anna for many months!!!! The strategy of Nokia leaders is really stupid. They are losing their customers easily for other competitors like Apple, HTC,.. I am sure that Nokia phone is excellent from durability, battery, and generally the hardware. Symbian is good OS and can do most of things easily. However, the management of Nokia company is too poor for their very slow responses about market needs. As end user, I like my phone to be updated at least twice a year to feel the renewing of my phone.

im from the philippines… im an n8 user here for almost 2weeks now,, (received this phone from my wife after my n900 got lost) and i can say,,, even though symbian is really late in all aspect,,,, it is still a part of the phone,,camera? the best… music quality,,, best,,, movies? not to mention the HD games,,,,, being an average user,, txting,,, unlicalls,,,, surfing the web thru wifi,, it really meet my standards,,,,, so even though anna is still yet to come,,, im satisfied with my phone,,,

Anna Symbian is already available on Nokia smart phones in sw updates in phone setting but u require wi fi connection as there is larhge data to be loaded arround 65 MB +, which includes ovi store updates too. It has two updates Anna Symbian 1 and 2. Some mobile gets hanged during update then u have to restart ur mobile for succesful update. Looking forward for Symbian Belle got some what similar features like android phones but its not copy of android phones. u get NFC , Notification slide from top to view ur notification and much more. A leak version is out for Nokia N8 but has confusing process and threat to mobile if u do wrong codes punching and saving. Any way just wait for right time for Symbian Belle u will get somewhat similar feel like android phones. At last symbian is still in race with other latest operating system better late than never.
