HTC ThunderBolt Gingerbread Update: The Wait Continues

Published

on

Today was supposed to be the day that Android 2.3 arrived for the HTC ThunderBolt. If you recall, and I am sure many of you do, the rumor pegged today, June 30th, as the day that the glorious Gingerbread update would roll out. It’s now noon here in San Francisco, 3PM on the east coast, and there is no sign of the update, an update that an HTC rep recently said would be coming soon.

HTC ThunderBolt

What does this mean?  It just means that you’ll have to continue to wait. That shouldn’t be a problem right? After all, the HTC ThunderBolt has been out since March? Oh wait, that’s right, I’m forgetting. Some of you are barely able to use your phones because of the random reboot issue. Oh, and that’s right. The newly released Skype with video calling doesn’t work either. And neither does Netflix.

Yes, there is a laundry list of issues that will apparently be fixed once Gingerbread arrives but one can’t help but wonder what new problems will surface once it does in fact reach the ThunderBolt.

Let’s hope that the extra time that Verizon and HTC are taking with this means that they will get it right the first time and avoid a similar situation to what’s going on with the Motorola Droid X and the other Droid devices on Verizon.

There’s still time left in the day but it looks like the wait for Gingerbread continues for HTC ThunderBolt owners.

I was so pumped for the update, I hope it comes this afternoon. Sometimes Verizon releases updates when Cell Phone usage is at a minimum because it is less stress.

I talked to an HTC rep yesterday, and he said the update will be a software fix only..it’s not going to be Gingerbread. Sorry folks….

Yup. I’ve got my fingers crossed for you and the four guys here at GBM who rock the TBolt.

Your right mail but when waiting for this fixupdate it can get damn frustrating. I know I’m not the only one out there that has been waiting for this. All we can do for the mean time is wait, wait, wait.

Just like i’ve said before i’ll beleive it when I see it. Don’t get so pumped on the udate coming out it will probably be another 2 or 3 more weeks if not more. Thanks HTC & VZW for a phone we’ve had since March that still sucks  I mean it’s only been ALMOST 4 months that we’ve had problems with the TBolt. When will everything get fixed ? When i’m eligble for my upgrade in 2 years ?

ya loli actually talked to averizon tech tonight and he acted like he didnt havea clue the tbolt was even supposed to get an update! i called htc and they said yes, soon……… last week an htc rep said the tbolts were fine and functioning correctly. lots of rumors, denials, comformations, and general b.s. while we all try to continue fighting a phone we paid enough for we shouldnt  have to. so yes, frustrating is an understatement to say the least.

Root it and flash it to bamf 2.1 with the mr2 radio. No more reboots and you have gingerbread 2.3.4.

All I can say is I am glad I decided to wait on purchasing the Thunderbolt and wait on consumer reviews. I spoke with a Verizon sales rep this past weekend and asked about the GB update. He said it would be out June 30 and then proceeded to display his own Thunderbolt and said he was just as anxious as anyone else for the update. Well June 30 came and went and still no update. I don’t blame people for being furious after spending all that money for a phone that suffers from the issues this one does. HTC and Verizon should have done more testing before releasing the phone. It has damaged both their reputations.

I’m part of the group of users that haven’t suffered from random reboots since the first update. However, like everyone else I was very hopeful for the gingerbread update to fix everything. Not surprised that Verizon decided to shit on us all again. I mean they already loaded the phone with trash spyware type apps like blockbuster (FYI, performing the blockbuster fix probably boosted my battery 50%), screwed us with the first update, it should be no surprise they will continue to distribute the shaft, and a big one at that, amongst its customers.

WE continue to wait,& wait & wait for the next update, then the next, then ???? I’m about ready to root this
bad boy once & for all even if it voids a warranty for a recon’d T-bolt….

I called HTC the other day (July 2, 2011) and they confirmed that the Gingerbread 2.3.4 (which will also fix random reboot issues, GPS issues, improve battery life by little, and will put Skype and Gtalk on all TB models) update has started to go out in batches based on MEID #’s. Although they would not confirm the time between batches, which is kinda crappy. Verizon Wireless did not cause the issue of delay though, it was caused by HTC with an early upgrade release even though it was not ready to be released on June 30 . They have also said we should see the Android Ice Cream Sandwich 3.4 update sometime in Q4 2011, which will come with many improvements on the HTC Thunderbolt, such as importing certain HTC Sense 3.0 aspects on the phone, But HTC did not state which aspects would be imported. Hope this helps.

Really that is great news. Now the only question is WHO HAS IT?. I have perused all the forums and no one has jumped and said they have it on the TB.

      Thanks for the info
