Motorola Droid Bionic Launching August 4th, Droid 3 on July 14th?

A leaked Verizon Wireless screenshot shows that the carrier may launch the Motorola Droid Bionic on August 4th and the flagship Motorola Droid 3 on July 14th. Though the carrier never announced the launch date for the Droid Bionic, the handset was anticipated to be the second 4G LTE Android smartphone for Verizon’s network, however undisclosed issues with the smartphone forced Motorola to re-design the handset.

Since then, Motorola’s rivals have launched the HTC Thunderbolt, the Samsung Droid Charge, and the LG Revolution as 4G LTE handsets on Verizon’s network. With 4G LTE, Verizon is promising data speeds up to ten times faster than 3G speeds; real life performance of 4G LTE is around 6-12 Mbps for downlink speeds and 2-5 Mbps on the uplink side.

The Droid Bionic was initially believed to have been released with a dual-core Tegra 2 chipset made by NVIDIA. Since the handset’s CES introduction, however, it is now believed that the device will launch with a dual-core ARM-based OMAP chipset from Texas Instruments.

The Motorola Droid 3 may launch on July 14th, after the anticipated July 7th launch date for Verizon’s new wireless metered data plans. The Droid 3 was initially believed to be launched on July 7th, but the latest screen shot shows that Verizon may be delaying the handset to launch a week later.

Good Lord. By the time the Bionic releases, it will be old technology.

I’m so glad that a friend had a leftover droid to give me so I can nab the unlimited data plans for grandfathering purposes while I wait around for the Bionic.

but, that’s a 3G unlimited plan. They may not be upgradable to 4G LTE so if you do get the Bionic or upgrade to 4G, Verizon may tell you to upgrade to a tiered 4G plan because 3G and 4G are the same price, but they’re not the same plan I believe

I’ve been waiting for the Bionic as well, and until then am stuck with my LG Voyager (not even the 2 – the original). Last week, I got a data plan for it and was told that I would be grandfathered in to unlimited data. I specifically asked about what would happen if I were to buy a 4G LTE phone and they said it didn’t matter, that I would have unlimited data anyways.

” the flagship Motorola Droid 3″  – Are you kidding me?  It’s not even a 4G LTE phone.  The flagship is the Bionic.  Not everyone is going to want the extra weight and bulk of a keyboard either.

As for the dates, they are speculative at best right now although they do seem to make sense being available after the unlimited data plan will not be available for new Verizon customers.  Verizon will need something to lure new customers.

they will keep the 29,99 plan….stop and think of all the phones that have been built and need to be sold along with the droid x2…marketing plans are to serve the manufacturer also, knowing that when the bionic is launched people will again make a trade off if the reports are good & spend the money…marketing stratagey vs the will of the spoiled consumer…after it does come out, look for another monster to be around the corner leaving the consumer drueling to spend once again…

The reason I am getting the Droid 3 is because of its keyboard! I Not to mention its other specs despite not being 4G LTE. I hate phones without an actual keyboard. I currently have a touch-screen only phone and ohh god I hate it! Had it since last year. Been saving my upgrade for a good phone to come out.

They are the same plan. if you have the 3g unlimited, its unlimited to whatever phone you have 3g or 4g. so if you get it by july 7, you’re in.

Nobody is going to buy it without an unlimited data plan. Poor business decision by Verizon.

My son is a Distric Manager for Verizon.  He confirmed that there is no such thing as a 3G data plan and a 4G data plan.  So if you are unlimited as of July 7, you’re good to go.  No need to have a 4G phone to be grandfathered.

He also confirmed the Droid 3 for July 14.  When I showed him the screen shot, he said it looked legitimate but did not have any confirmation on the August 4th date of the Bionic.  He was optomistic though that since the screen shot had an accurate date for the Droid 3, it was l ikely to be accurate for the Bionic.  But he cautioned that things can change in a heart beat so not to hold my breath.

Well, looks like both July 7th and 14th are pretty good for Droid 3. Online July 8th (today) for the Droid 3, and 14th for in-store availability. Who’s gonna wait 6 more weeks for the Bionic?
