Sky Force Promo running on Android

Developer Infinite Dreams offers up its game Sky Force for free today in both the Apple App Store and the Android Market. If you like vintage style graphics and scrolling shooters you’ll find this a fun game worth your shot. I like those kinds of games, and so do my kids, so I snapped it up on both my HTC Thunderbolt and iPhone. I was not disappointed. Nokia users are not out of luck, as it is in the Ovi Store for free today too.

As you can see from the screen shot from the Android Market, this is one of those vertical scrollers. The screen automatically advances and you control your ship by touch. It fires automatically. I set it on the easiest settings and found it extremely easy. You may want to challenge yourself with medium or higher.

There are three levels of ability and three kinds of ships. I tried the medium speed and combined that with the easiest skill level. I got through the first three rounds without any trouble on my first try.

You have to shoot down planes, helicopters, blow buildings up and rescue people. You collect stars and other things including shield regenerators.

The graphics are decidedly vintage, which is likely by design. These older style graphics games that look like they jumped off the early Nintendo system from the nineties are all the rage today and I like that. As my gaming son says, “The graphics are old-fashioned but the game is a lot of fun.”

I had a little trouble installing it on the HTC Thunderbolt, but the developer said this was a problem with the Android Market and not their app. The developer of the games gave us a great workaround:

1. Unmount the SD card by going to “”Settings ->SD & Phone Storage””
2. Install the game.
3. Mount SD card again by going to “”Settings -> SD & Phone Storage””
4. Game is installed to internal memory. If you wish, you may move it to SD card by going to “”Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications””, selecting our game and clicking on “”Move to SD card””.

Sorry, my mistake. Searching for the app on the market didn’t yield today’s promo, but clicking on the link you posted did work, and allowed me to send “Sky Force Promo” directly to my phone. Thanks!
