T-Mobile Adds Option for Real Name Caller ID Service for Mobile

Published

on

T-Mobile USA will be looking to differentiate its network and offerings to consumers by offering them an optional real name caller ID service. Caller ID on mobile today only displays a caller’s number when they call in, unless the caller’s name and information has been saved to the phone book where the cell phone can match up that name with the number. With T-Mobile USA’s Name ID service, which comes at an optional $3.99 per month subscription, customers can see the name of the person trying to call them regardless if the number has been saved to the phone book.

With Name ID, T-Mobile USA’s caller ID service for mobile handsets will mirror those of landlines where the caller’s name will appear rather than just the number.

The service is available for a 10-day free trial period on the Samsung Exhibit 4G smartphone and will also be available on the forthcoming HTC myTouch 4G Slide smartphone arriving later this month.

In the past, carriers have often tried to augment regular number displayed caller ID services. For instance, Verizon Wireless bundles City ID, which will also display a caller’s city and state along with their telephone number when they call in. That service is also an optional subscription service.
