In addition to AT&T’s iPhone 4 and iPad 2 with WiFi and 3G, Verizon Wireless may begin its push towards the smaller microSIM SIM card standard. A leaked employee training document shows that the carrier will usher in the microSIM standard beginning with the release of the 4G LTE-embedded Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 for its network. As it stands, the Motorola Xoom, with its SIM card tray and dummy SIM shows that the Motorola variant will be sporting a traditional SIM rather than the smaller microSIM.
The document reveals that the carrier will transition to the smaller microSIM standard in 2012. Verizon says that 2011 is a transition period, and microSIM devices are targeted for late July 2011, suggesting that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 with 4G LTE is imminent. It notes that some devices will launch with traditional SIM cards and others with microSIM during this interim period.
