In a little bit of a shocker, good news for the Motorola Xoom is scarce these days, Verizon has posted the details regarding the Motorola Xoom 3G’s upgrade to Android 3.2 Honeycomb, an update that has already rolled out for the Wi-Fi version of the tablet. There aren’t any surprises unfortunately but because Verizon has posted this, it means that an update  roll out is right around the corner. A soak test will apparently begin later on this week and if all goes smoothly, all of you Xoom owners who haven’t traded your tablet in for another will be graced with the latest version of Google’s tablet optimized software.

So, what’s new? Well, here is a rundown of what the update is going to be bringing along with it:

+ Screen Scaling Compatibility Mode:

Ability to switch to double pixel mode for selected applications. When selected, application sub windows and drop down menus are also doubled. In addition, pixel doubling settings are saved for each application.

+ SD Card Support:

New microSD card support allows you to use a file manager to view all the important files, pictures, music, videos and more stored on
your SD card, as well as write content to your SD card via connection to a PC or Mac.

+ Adaptive Streaming Support for Movies:

Adjusts the bit rate based on client bandwidth, providing an improved user experience.

+ Movie Rental Improvements:

• Stability improvements to the overall experience.
• When viewing with HDMI connection, the screen will accurately resize.

+ New EAS policy: “Allow Password Recovery”

+ Improvements to Exchange ActiveSync and security

SD card support is obviously the big thing here but movie rental improvements and the screen scaling capabilities for non-tablet applications also should be welcomed features.

So, you should see the update any day now, Xoom owners and then it’s on to waiting for the upgrade for 4G LTE.
