AT&T LTE Equipment in Apple Store Fuels 4G iPhone 5 Rumors

Published

on

LTEA photo obtained by Engadget purportedly shows 4G LTE equipment installed in a major Apple store. The interesting part is that the equipment was apparently put there by, you guessed it, AT&T, the same carrier that just announced its plans to launch  its first 4G LTE devices on August 21st. Unfortunately, AT&T’s 4G LTE network still doesn’t have a launch date.

The equipment is said to support 700MHz and AWS bands which are the bands that AT&T plans to use if the T-Mobile deal goes through. This of course comes a day after a report stated that Apple was testing a 4G LTE iPhone with carriers.

In addition, Apple is apparently hoping to increase staff at the Apple Store with the LTE equipment by 30 percent and is looking to do the same with other stores in the region. The staff increase is also not supposed to have any correlation to the holidays.

I’ve been over why I don’t think the next iPhone is going to be LTE compatible but I will say this. I don’t see an LTE iPhone launching until AT&T’s LTE network has matured. It still isn’t out and it’s only going to be launching in five cities. I don’t think that’s good enough for Apple.

Still, all of this is pretty interesting and at least presents a glimmer of hope for an LTE iPhone 5 but I’m still not convinced.

How about you?

I paid $23.88 for an i Pad 2 32-GB and my girlfriend loves her Panasonic

Lumiix GF 1 Camera that we got for $ 38.41 there arriving tomorrow by UPS. I

will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I

also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $ 635 which only cost me $ 61.74 to

buy. Here is the website we use to get it al from,

We don’t have 4G in the UK yet, or most countries to be honest, so I wouldn’t bank on the next iPhone having it. The auction for the spectrum isn’t even going to be until about late 2012 let alone building the network up. Apple is more for the whole world and they don’t really change it for different markets, so if the chip is going to cost extra and not going to be used it seems a bit of a waste. The next phone I get will be 4G, it’ll be probably an iPhone but if something else good comes along then I’ll get that!
