Motorola Droid Bionic Appears in Best Buy’s September Buyer’s Guide

Published

on

The Motorola Droid Bionic launch is getting closers. This week the Motorola Droid Bionic makes an appearance in the Best Buy Mobile Phone Buyer’s Guide for September.

We don’t have an official release date for the Motorola Droid Bionic, but the inclusion of the device alongside the majority of Verizon’s 4G LTE lineup solidifies the September lineup. Based on the information we currently have, the Motorola Droid Bionic will launch on September 8th.

Motorola Droid Bionic Best Buy

The Motorola Droid Bionic is a 4G LTE smartphone running Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) with a dual core 1GHz processor. This is the first dual core 4G LTE smartphone on Verizon’s network.

The Droid Bionic has a 8MP rear facing camera that can record in 1080P and a VGA quality front facing camera that sits above the 4.3″ display.

There is no official pricing on the Droid Bionic, but we are expecting a sub-$600 full retail price with the possibility of a $299 two year contract price. This price has made an appearance in several locations now, and while the Best Buy ad doesn’t list a price, the Bionic is furthest to the left, next to the $299 Samsung Charge.

We asked last week if you would still want to purchase the Droid Bionic at $299, and an astonishing 68% of you said that you would pass on the device at $300. It’s not surprising that so many of you don’t want to get the Bionic at this price, considering the iPhone 5 will cost $199 and other competing Android devices aren’t as expensive.

As Adam Mills has pointed out before, Verizon is charging a premium to get on their 4G LTE network. Instead of charging you a monthly fee, the phones are more expensive upfront.

    Bionic sucks!

Yeah right. What happened is that you upgraded to early and you really want this phone and instead you bought the lightningbolt. Maybe next time buddy.

Mfingnewton, I couldn’t have said it better myself. Bionic is the top spec’d phone on the market and anyone who complains about the $300 price is just stupid. I mean seriously folks, how many of you went out and bought the Iphud when it released at over $400? and that was a total piece of crap compared to any android device on the market. $300 for a large screen, dual core, a gig or DDR2 RAM, and 16 gig onboard all wrapped in a nice LTE data plan… hmmm… what phone is it again that does that? oh… this one. Point, Set, and Match.

The Bionic is not the top spec’d phone. It’s using the oldest dual core processor of the current crop of dual cores. The Galaxy S II has a better screen, faster processor, faster GPU, and slimmer design. The only question is will the verizon Galaxy S II have LTE.

Not charging a fee for 4g? I’m pretty sure tiered data plans instead of having unlimited is charging us, even if it isn’t direct. Verizon is raping us but unfortunately they have the best service and this will be a good phone for a couple years which at that point the landscape could be completely different.

Yeah but only 5% of the customer base uses over 2GB’s basically they are just going after power users just joining the network.  More data someone uses slower bandwidth for others so it’s more a form of keeping people in check so that everyone on the network can get full benefit of the speeds IMO.

I use well over 2gbs a month.  Why have a smartphone if you do not?  Verizon unlimited data rocks

You guys should check your local Best Buy Mobile to see if they price-match websites like Wirefly.Com and such.  I live in Charlotte and my BBYM price-matched Wirefly when I got my Thunderbolt awhile back, and I got the sucker for $129 when it was still upwards of $249 at Verizon.  Just a workaround that may be available.

To be totally honest I’d rather spend more upfront on the phone rather than pay more monthly for LTE. I’m pretty pumped to have a 4G phone and have access to those data speeds. I’m going to get the Bionic because I have a Eris and anything would be an upgrade. Waiting until November or December isn’t really something that sounds attractive with this Eris.

    • eris

      08/22/2011 at 4:47 pm

Same deal here…have an eris with a huge brick of a battery pack so it gets through the day and cyanogen CM7 so it runs a little more smoothly…can’t wait to upgrade to this.

Why are they selling the Revolution for 249?  Isnt it down to 199 now?

      08/22/2011 at 7:26 pm

Yep, it sure is. Alas, even that is too much for the Revolution.

this phone will be very nice but not worth 300 when a moto atrix is what 100 and is  the same phone minus lte and a better camera hell you can find the atrix for 50 also the proton is only 199.

I have a upgrade but at this price I will wait for the samsung s2d being smaller and faster the htc vigor with it’s fantasy spec dual core 1.5 ghz dre beats and a 720p screen.  I soubt either option will be more than 300 hell I might wait to see i phone if all the option suck.

My x has crappy audio can’t even talk in a parking lot since it’s not loud enough so I hope the bionic improves on that aspect becausue it looks like htc will focus on that.

When I think about ti compared to my x the bionic has twice the muscle and that’s nice but the screen is the same quality and the phone has 4g this is just a slight step up to me since it does not improve in all aspects vs my phone. The vigor however improves in every aspect power image quality 720p and hopefully audio not to say the bionic will  not improve on that aspect but this phone sound like it’s a real step up as will the droid hd from moto.

Lastly all these phone will have gingerbread like I do now and that is nice but I really would like to buy a device that runs on gingerbread out of the box the reason being I do noyt want to have this ne device running on the same os as I have right now six months later it;s like buying a pc with windows 7 a week before win 8 comes out but you are told you will get win 8 for free but will have to wait a year due to how fast android updates thats not a exageration i will wai t two weeks and get a 8 pc at that point.

You are so correct. I’d rather pay a little more up front for the phone and to be on the LTE then to pay a monthly fee to be on the LTE.

NO ONE WANTS TO PAY THAT MUCH FOR A PHONE, BUT IF THAT’S THE PRICE AND YOU WANT THE BIONIC THEN YOU WILL NEED TO PAY THE ASKING PRICE! ITS GOING TO BE AN OUTSTANDING PHONE! WELL WORTH THE PRICE THEY ARE ASKING!

Such drivel here. You have to be a moron to buy the phone from Verizon or a Verizon VAR when you will be able to get it much cheaper elsewhere.  I want the best dual core 4g LTE phone that will be available in September and October.  I will try and get the best deal possible and leave it at that.  It may or may not be the Bionic.  We all have our own criteria for what we think is the best so get what will make YOU happy and fits within your budget.  Whether any phone is worth the price or not is up to the purchaser.

After all of the runaround with the Bionic, I’ve lost faith in the phone.  I’m waiting for a much better one.  The Samsung Celox is coming to Verizon as their Samsung Galaxy s2 variant.  It blows the Bionic out of the water. 1.5 Dual core in the Celox instead of the 1.0 in the Bionic.  Plus, all of the waiting and redoing of the Bionic leads me to believe it will be a crappy phone.  Samsung has always been a better company with better products.  I’m going with the Samsung, Ladies and Gents.  Good luck with the Bionic though.  Hopefully I’m wrong about it being crappy.

Good luck with those OS upgrades! I have a gs (work phone) and DX (mine). At least Moto will update the OS. Not as fast as I want, but a hell of a lot faster than Sammy’s never…oh wait, nope, ok here you go 18 months after release. Not taking sides, but I am all about the Vigor, and wont buy another Samsung phone. Just my opinion…

What attracts me to the Bionic are the docks for it. The car dock and the USB laden doc. Perhaps you could hook up a screen and a keyboard?

Idk where they get their info on apple handsets at, but from the unreleased apple ad that I got my hands on it is going to be apple is going to be naming their next iPhone the iPhone 4G. And yes it was confermed by apples legal department when I got denied to release the screen shots that I took!

Being a VZW employee we can always discount phones.  It’s just a matter of searching around for someone willing to sell it to you for the price you want it matched by.  Usually we don’t match wirefly.com since they tend to screw people over on their plan so I usually tell those people to go ahead and 100% of the time they get put into a ridiculous business plan.

But it’s definitely worth going around to a couple different ones searching for the one employee who’s in need of a smartphone sale.  Best time of the month to get deals on phones is towards the end of the month.  As far as the phone I can’t wait at least I’ll get to try it out prior to purchase and apparently the Bionic HD is in rumor already.

I have been using Wirefly for 5-6 years now. Upgrade every year (2 lines, one comes up each year) and they have never screwed me over. Wanna get screwed? Shop @ Verizon. Want to pay less, Wirefly or Amazon…

If the Bionic was released a couple months ago, I’d have it right now and be stuck with it for the next 2 years. I’m glad they delayed the bionic, it gave me time to look around and see what else is on the verizon…I mean horizon. That Nexus Prime coming out in October with a 4.5-inch HD AMOLED display and a 1.5GHz dual core processor looks way better. Will also be the first phone to have Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. I think I’m going to wait it out :)

So thank you Motorola for the delays.

I’ll wait till the official specs to compare it with the SII. If the Bionic has a much longer battery life then that would do it for me. I just don’t trust the Nexus Prime. I’ll wait the 2 years to get the debugged version.

I notice people seem to forget the webtop and great accessories that motorola has when comparing the bionic to other phones. Mirror mode is a great feature, as well as webtop, and the multimedia dock will truly put this device ahead of the others. The gs2 has mirror mode but you have to use a big clunky adapter to make it work, and the usb port is in a really bad location, not to mention samsung shitty quality. It is a bionic for me all the way!
