Android Market Update Brings +1 Button, PIN Number for Purchases

Android MarketBack in July, Google rolled out a massive Android Market update that overhauled the look and brought a number of new features including new ways to discover applications and the ability to rent movies and purchase books right from your phone.

Today, Google is back at it with another big update for the Android Market and this time, it has added a number of features including that very familiar +1 button, a PIN number for app purchases and more.

Let’s start with the big stuff first. The addition of the +1 button allows you to, obviously, +1 apps in the Market. This of course has been a part of the web version of the Android Market for a little while now so it’s nice to see that it has finally made its way to mobile.

Another nifty addition is the PIN number feature that allows you to secure you to set up a PIN number for purchases on the app store. This is great for those of you that leave your Android handset sitting out, without a password, and open to the Android Market. Or have your device stolen. Either or.

There are also some cosmetic changes about including a new Market icon and a newly tailored Settings menu as well. Google seems to have shifted the placement of some stuff as well.

All in all, solid update for the Android Market, I just wish that they would now focus on making the Search function better. As it stands, it’s atrocious.

I’m still curious as to why the new market in any iteration hasn’t been pushed to all users.  I’m still waiting on the new market so I can take advantage of renting movies.
