Which Cellphone Provider Will You Buy an iPhone 5 On? [Poll]

Published

on

The iPhone 5 release date is getting closer each day, and now we have a collection of new rumors to add to the mix, which point to the biggest iPhone launch since the first iPhone.

If the current rumors hold true, the iPhone 5 will be available on October 7th on all 4 major cell phone companies in the U.S.

It’s a given that the iPhone 5 will land on Verizon and AT&T, but recent reports show that Sprint will get the iPhone 5, moving 1.2 million iPhones in the process and the latest rumor is that Apple is going to deliver an iPhone to T-Mobile.

Who knows, the rumored cheaper iPhone could show up on a service like Virgin Mobile or Metro PCS if pre-paid smartphone shoppers are lucky.

iPhone 5 release date

The iPhone 5 may arrive on all four major carriers.

That’s a lot of “ifs” and speculation, but it would make sense that Apple would want the iPhone in the hands of as many consumers as possible, which means it would need to be on as many major carriers as possible.

While Apple had to hand over exclusivity to AT&T when they first launched the iPhone, the company has enough power that they can deliver an iPhone on the each of the major cell phone networks.

This is great news for consumers who will have an unprecedented level of choice when it comes to the iPhone. No longer will you need to pick from one or two cell phone companies, but instead you can pick the one that provides the best service to you.

A hidden blessing in all of this is that the cell phone companies won’t be able to count on the iPhone alone to move units, and will need to continue to invest in their network quality.

The downside of this news is that it could put a nail in the coffin of the unlimited data plans at Sprint. It has already played a part in the extinction of unlimited data at other carriers.

Unless Apple allows all widgets, launchers and real background multitasking, there will be a lot of disappointed people expecting more out of the iphone and not getting it. My kids just got new 3VOs and use the crap out a truly annoying array of widgets, multiple facebook and video apps, and other ugly-ass home screen and launcher blingage because they think it looks cool. I don’t think they could go to an iphone the way it is now. It would be a step backwards. My kids wouldn’t look twice at the iphone if it didn’t have exclusive games.

Sprints WiMxax and 3G network are both horrible. Why would anyone have an iPhone 5 on Sprint? I’d rather have the iPhone 5 on Verizon. The Verizon 4G runs at a lower frequency.

    Sprint WiMax 4G- 2500MHz
    Verizon 4G LTE- 700MHz

    The lower, the better.

Not only that, but LTE has been proven to be twice as fast as WiMAX in real-world usage. And Verizon has been a lot more active in expanding their network than Sprint.

And for those of us with grandfathered data plans, Verizon unlimited is way cheaper than Sprint unlimited.

Doubt it matters as the new iPhone most likely will not be LTE capable. You see, Steve doesn’t want you to have an LTE iPhone yet.
