Nokia 703 Windows Phone 7 Device Name Pops Up

Published

on

Scott Peterson, developer of the Windows Phone app ‘I’m a WP7,’ has noticed a new Nokia device name showing up as the Nokia 703. The 703 should be a mid-range device that will slot in under the 800 and 900 series smartphones made by Nokia, but above the 500 and 600 series devices. It’s unclear if the Nokia 703 will be a new smartphone, or if it will be represented by the Nokia Sea Ray, a device that has been shown off before under its code name and without formal retail branding.

In the past, another app developer had collected data aggregated from devices using the app and found that there was a Windows Phone 7 device from Nokia with the Nokia 800 device ID.

Right now, there isn’t a lot of information known about any of these devices, other than what we’ve seen leaked about the Sea Ray itself. If these device IDs are in fact different and distinct Nokia Windows Phone 7 handsets, it does show that Nokia will be making a very aggressive push behind Microsoft’s platform with multiple models.

Whatever the case may be, those in the U.S. shouldn’t expect to buy any of these new Nokia Windows Phone 7 smartphones unlocked; Nokia had announced that it would only be going through carrier channels moving forward to deliver phones to consumers and won’t be selling unlocked, contract-free devices.
