Motorola Droid 2 Gingerbread Update Now Available

Adam Mills —  09/01/2011

Late last night, a miracle occurred. Verizon and Motorola finally began pushing out the Gingerbread update for the Motorola Droid 2. And it’s not an OTA update either. No sir. It’s available for Droid 2 owners, what’s left of them, to pull this very minute to get up and running. Unfortunately, it’s Android 2.3.3 and not the latest version of Gingerbread, Android 2.3.4.

Tough luck but we’re sure that you’ll be able to handle it after waiting all this time for the update to arrive.

So, what’s new? Well, besides Gingerbread, you’re going to see a host of improvements including a wew Download Manager app, a new interface and color scheme (expect lots of blue), VPN enhancements, Multi-Touch Key-Chording, a new ‘Running’ tab for apps, and more.

Droid 2

Hopefully, fingers crossed, the update works out better than the Droid X Gingerbread update did. Droid X owners endured a nightmare with Gingerbread until Verizon and Motorola rolled out a fix. It seems like things are working out well for Droid 2 owners though.

So, What are you waiting for?

Settings>About phone>System updates

Now.

My phone has been stuck at a 1% download for 6 hours. I CAN”T MAKE IT STOP!!!

  5. mine is saying “no updates available”  :(

  6. No update available for me either.

  7. no updates here either, but I am rooted and using Liberty 2.1 Froyo – shouldn’t matter though…or should it?

  8. Annnnnnd now my Plants v. Zombies doesn’t work. THANKS, Gingerbread!

  9. My droid 2 might as well be a paper weight after this update this morning.

    Freezing.

    Locking up.

    Can’t bring “out of sleep”.

    Browser locks up.

Desktop that will now try to rotate locks up.

Had to remove battery several times in the last hour to revive or sometimes it will let me hold the power button to restart (like it used to during an occasional problem) but this sucks now. What in the He|| is up with this update? I won’t let the update install on the gf’s phone until I find out what’s up. I told her to keep knocking it back 2 hours until I let her know.

I’m not sure about this. Droid 2 global seems to not have an update available. What’s the deal? :(

  11. I’m having the same exact problem! thinking about going to the verizon store today

  12. My phone shuts off, its freezing…I hate it!!!

  13. I have a problem with phone favorites.  I add a contact but it puts a completely different contact on favorites.  Also, problems with Most Likely.  Names I have not called in years are popping up on there.  And sometimes I press a name/icon I want to call I get a different person.  What’s going on.  Just got Droid 2.3.3 downloaded.

  14. GINGERBREAD=CRAP!!! I have had nothing but problems with my DROID2 since they pushed this on us. Contantly locking up and having to hard reset (at least 1-2 times a month), keyboard locking up, screen not rotating. A couple of my friends are having the same issues. Also, all my Google Calender entries are unavailable on the phone for appts previous to the update in Sept. Unless I go in and re-save EVERY ONE individually (over 2 years worth of entries), it doesn’t recognize those previous calendar entries. SERIOUSLY?? Did you not think about this IN ADVANCE?? That people might just need/want to be able to access this information??? I was patient and have waited this out for more than 4 months and the situation is NOT getting better. When I hard reset everything DOES NOT come back EXACTLY the way it was previous to the reset, so there is a back-up disconnect too. Therefore, I have to spend time restoring the stuff that never made it back from reset Hell. I cringe everytime I hear someone recommend a Hard Reset or Factory Reset. CO’MON… How about you think something thru and TEST it fully before dumping it on us without a choice of whether we want it or not. CRAP, CRAP, CRAP!!! And on top of it, I have to pay $30 extra every month for CRAP. Anyone have a good Windows Mobile PDA w/Wi-Fi they would recommend? I miss my iPaq :-(
