AT&T Generates Goodwill with 1,000 Free Rollover Minutes
Ahead of the much speculated launch of the iPhone 5, U.S. wireless carrier AT&T, which had been the exclusive iPhone partner until earlier this year when Verizon joined the iOS party and began to sell the CDMA iPhone 4, is trying to generate goodwill with its customers by giving out 1,000 free rollover minutes. The minutes come with no strings attached and may be seen as a move to retain existing iPhone and smartphone customers ahead of the iPhone 5.
Given that the iPhone 5 is rumored to be coming to AT&T and Verizon with possibly Sprint and T-Mobile USA also getting their own versions of the flagship iOS smartphone, AT&T will face even stiffer competition this year. The carrier has had a bad reputation among city dwellers in major metropolitan areas for reliability of coverage and dropped calls when compared with its competitors.
The 1,000 free rollover minutes may be a ploy to retain customers, and hopefully AT&T will have learned from its mistakes in the past and will beef up its network prior to the smartphone’s launch.
According to Phonescoop, customers will need to respond to a free text message sent by the carrier to receive the free rollover minutes.
