iPad 2 Vs. Windows 8 Tablet: 11 Minute Showdown [Video]

Published

on

The iPad 2 is the tablet to beat, and while Android is having a difficult time doing this, Microsoft is hoping that next year Windows 8 tablet swill take back the Tablet space and give the iPad some competition.

This week Microsoft made an early build of Windows 8 available to the public, and now we can see how the iPad 2 compares to a tablet running Windows 8.

WinRumors shot an 11 minute head to head video showing off iOS 5 vs. Windows 8 on a tablet. The head to head video covers many aspects of the devices including;

  • lock screens
  • icons and movement
  • customization
  • browsers (Safari vs. IE 10)
  • keyboard head to head
  • settings and control panel
  • built in search

If you want Windows 8, you can get your copy now to test out for free. If you have a spare tablet around, you can get a good look at how it compares to the iPad and the overall use of Windows 8. This is a developer preview, so there will be some issues, but you’ll be able to get a good look at the how Windows 8 handles.

Why didn’t they compare creating and editting an Excel document, or inking in OneNote? You know, something useful. Windows 8 is going to be on a lot of different platforms with different performances and should have been compared to a MacBook/MacBookPro as then you would be comparing full OS’s instead of a full OS to a mobile OS. That and Windows 8 is still in beta.

That version of Windows 8 IS NOT EVEN BETA – it’s a developer preview only. So the fact that it even comes close is a miracle, much less that DNel is absolutely right:

    1. show each platform editing an Excel spreadsheet (watch iPad mangle it)
    2. show each platform editing a Word Doc (watch iPad mangle it)
    3. show each platform editing and playing a Powerpoint presentation
    4. INKING WITH ONENOTE!
    5. browsing a network share
    6. running TWO programs onscreen at the same time
    7. connect an external hard drive to each one (oops, no iPad there)

PLEASE – this comparison between a two year old platform and a pre-beta preview is insane yet ignores how many ways the Sammy is actually superior to the iPad in many constructive and creative ways!

Would current versions of Word, Excel and OneNote (2010, 2007 and so on) work on WIndows 8? Otherwise, the comparison you suggest (which I’d love to see too) would be hard to make.

the is news that the next version of Office will be using the Metro Style UI to enhance the viewing and editing experience on Win 8 Tablet. Can’t wait to see that.

Well, I prefer ipad 2 than any other tablets. Considering hundreds of accessories I can choose from , like the metal keyboard for ipad 2 : https://www.slickgate.com/portable-ultrathin-aluminum-bluetooth-keyboard-dock-base-for-apple-ipad-2-white_p2557.html

obviously from your comment you like most Apple Fans want a trendy fashionable gadget and do not buy something for it’s functionality and specs.
There’s nothing wrong with that – you get 1 Nike tick you valid little consumer.

I’m using windows 8 64-bit pre-beta with a pen interface convertible tablet . It is in a different ball game than the the ipad. It is a full os. The programs for windows 7 work fine with minimal to no combatant issue with the desktop app. Adobe premiere,Photoshop, office 2010, Firefox, adobe flash player work the same as windows 7. The metro app work great but are none that useful in yet other than the metro internet explorer which has a desktop version too . It does have hand writing recondition as an all trivalent to a keyboard. That you can switch between when ever. One of the big thing you’ll be able to do is upgrade the software to the next version of windows after windows 8. Something you will not be able to do on apple devices after 2 to 3 years. Since they discontinue hardware support. Windows 8 also has a large hardware support of 32-bit, 64-bit, and arm architecture.

lest we forget, Windows were also putting a multitasking o/s on their Phones many years before the iPhone was a twinkle in Stevie’s eye.
Face it Apple markets their products to IT illiterates and that’s why the arguments they put forward as to why their products are the best sound like absolute drivel to anyone with half a brain.
Just because you can get a different color case to mach your shoes 7 days a week does not make up for the lack of function the dated specs and in most cases the over inflated price.
Simpletons have always been easy prey for corporate brainwash techniques.
