Nexus Prime Announcement Expected On October 11th. Droid Prime too?

Not content to let Apple have all of the October announcement fun, Samsung and Google are partnering for Samsung Mobile Unpacked 2011: Google Episode.

This is the event where we expect to see an official announcement of the Samsung Nexus Prime and possibly the Droid Prime.

The event, scheduled for October 11th in San Diego California is low on details, but this lines up with previous Droid Prime announcement dates.

Samsung And Google Are Set to Announce the Nexus Prime

Because the invitation tells us that we will, “get a look at what’s new from Android.”, we expect to see not only the latest Nexus device, but also Android Ice Cream Sandwich. Ice Cream Sandwich marks the convergence of the mobile Android OS (Gingerbread) and the tablet version of Android (Honeycomb).

The Samsung Nexus Prime is rumored to have a dual core processor (possibly TI-OMAP), a rear 8MP webcam, 2MP front facing camera and a 4.5″ to 4.65″ display. Best of all, the Nexus Prime is said to run on Verizon’s 4G LTE network. The announcement timing would make sense given the space between the Droid Bionic, Verizon’s latest top end 4G LTE smartphone.

This device could be the Droid Prime when it arrives on Verizon, but it would be a change for a Nexus device to share branding such as the Droid name. We had heard that these were two separate phones, but also conflicting rumors.

Previously all of the Google Nexus devices have featured a “vanilla” version of Google Android. These devices also have new features and upgrades faster than other devices. It wouldn’t be out of the question to see NFC and Google Wallet on the Samsung Nexus Prime or the Droid Prime.

No word on the Droid Prime release date or pricing, but we hope to learn more in just a few short weeks. Let’s hope Google, Samsung and Verizon are paying attention to what the Droid Prime needs to beat the iPhone 5.

Is this enough to take your mind off the iPhone 5 announcement?

Nexus Prime is why I passed on the Bionic.  Piss on the iPhone 5.

Sounds great, who could say no? Now the question becomes, why keep the details so private? Start advertising now and build up the hype.

Because they’re not media whores like Apple who’s entire business model is based on hyping inferior gadgets.

Something big is definitely coming to VZW.  For Verizon to be willing to possibly burn bridges with Apple by defending Samsung we have to expect something BIG coming from the both of them.  Its definitely not the Samsung Stratosphere (Sprint had the Epic 4G already come one its 2011), and we all know VZW isn’t getting the GSII.  The Nexus/Droid/Galaxy/Whatever Prime would definitely make sense to come to VZW and come to VZW first.  I am definitely looking forward to October 11th……. This phone has made me wish my life away lol.

Verizon has an impressive capacity for screwing up great opportunities when it comes to smartphones.  They’re probably agonizing right now over their compulsive need to pee on the new Android version so we all know it’s their territory.  What I really want is a vanilla release, but I’m not getting my hopes up.

I don’t think either Verizon or Google are interested in burning any bridges to Cuppertino.  The bottom line is about money.  They’ll sue each other if they think there’s money there, and they’ll sell each other’s stuff at the same time if there’s money there.  The Kabuki will be going on for a very long time, but one shouldn’t expect what’s on their faces to be the same as what’s on the masks.

My guess is the Droid Prime and Nexus Prime are two separate phones. The Droid Prime being the Samsung SCH I515 is likely similar to the Nexus Prime but with a few Verizon customization. While the Nexus Prime Samsung GT i9250 is the real Nexus with vanilla ICS w/ no customization and will be going to Tmobile, Sprint and Att. I will be looking forward to the outing of both devices on the 11th…hopefully all four Networks will have the devices from the jump hence putting the brakes on any iPhone 5 or 4S assualt on Android. I am brimming with excitement…got times ahead for Android and also for those who want the iphone 5.

I’ll be upgrading in December and right now the I’m sold on the Bionic. Hopefully this phone will be out and I’ll be able to compare the two. But if there is no HDMI out then that’s a dealbreaker for me. HDMI out is an absolute must for me.
