How Assistant Will Change the Way You Use the iPhone 5

Published

on

In addition to the iPhone 5 and iOS 5, we expect Apple will announce a new app called Assistant at the “Let’s Talk iPhone” event on October 4th.

The Apple Assistant will be the new feature that Apple holds back for the new iPhone 5 and possibly the iPhone 4S. This will be a part of iOS 5, but will only show up on the new phones, which Apple hopes you’ll purchase on release day or soon after.

The Apple Assistant app is rumored to combine the voice recognition capabilities of Nuance (makers of Dragon Dictate for Mac and Naturally Speaking for Windows) and Siri.

Siri debuted as a standalone app that let you ask your “assistant” to do things like send text messages, check your flight, ask Google Maps for directions and a variety of other tasks.

We expect that Apple will build on these features, and as part of iOS 5. It’s not yet clear if all apps will respond to Assistant commands, or if Apple will need to provide access, but it shouldn’t be too long before we find out.

MacRumors had a demo of how Assistant might work put together, which you can see below.

As you can see, the Assistant is expected to be an integral part of the new iPhone, and could change the way you use the iPhone 5.

We’ll compare Assistant to voice controls and voice command apps on Android and Windows Phone 7 once we have time to go hands on with the finished product.

We expect Apple will announce the iPhone 5 and the iOS 5 release date on October 4th at Apple’s headquarters.

The iPhone 5 will be available on AT&T and Verizon, and likely on Sprint. A recent leak suggests that even smaller pre-paid carriers will have the iPhone 5.

Apple will also announce iOS 5, a new operating system for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. This new software brings better notifications, a better camera app and over 200 new features to the iPhone 5 and existing iPhones.

I bought a desktop voice recognition package years ago, and never used it. Typing and mousing around is much faster; intuitive, and reliable. I doubt that will change on a mobile phone ?

You obviously have no idea what this thing is.

It’s always a bit sad when a site with OK-to-good content is so let down by the comments.

Are Apple fanboys out telling us we’re we supposed to love voice recognition now that Apple does it ? Same as FaceTime revolutionized (or is that invented ? magicked ?) video calling and obsoleted Skype ? Or is it just mindless trolling ? Or both ?

Voice dictation and voice command have been around for ages, to, mostly, yawns. Apple seem to feel the need to hype a new feature with every major OS release, which is fine, except they hype too much, and seem to have run out of ideas. Maybe voice recognition is a bit more useful to replace smartphones’ touch keyboards… I doubt it, don’t care in any case, and would have bought a keyboard phone if I really needed to enter a lot of info.

I am not an apple fanboy. I actually hate apple, but even I know assistant is NOT simple voice to text or voice command. You may want to do your research.

I would personally love to have a conversation on my iPhone, If this is the fact then this will be a great feature to the big selling point.
