Apple Mocks Droid Bionic in iPhone 4S Announcement

Published

on

It’s no secret that Apple likes to take shots at its competitors when announcing new products and today’s iPhone 4S announcement was no different with Verizon’s latest and greatest Android handset, the Motorola Droid Bionic, sitting squarely in Apple’s cross hairs. While talking about the iPhone 4S’ upgraded 8MP camera and its features, Apple’s Phil Schiller delved into the competition’s camera options.

And in doing so, he took a jab at Android’s cream of the crop showing a chart that showed off the time that it takes to take the first photo and the time that it takes to go shot to shot.

As you can see, the Motorola Droid Bionic is in last place and is listed amongst the HTC Sensation and the Samsung Galaxy S II, two other major Android phones. Schiller wasn’t done though.

He decided to take a full on shot at the Droid Bionic saying:

I don’t know what Droid Bionic customers have to do between taking pictures… like, go get coffee.

Oddly Schiller left out the slide comparing the iPhone 4S’ network speeds against the 4G LTE speeds that the Droid Bionic offers. Still, this hopefully will serve as a catalyst for Motorola to get their act together in the camera department.

This is actually funny. Camera speed is a very secondary (or is that tertiary ?)  feature for a smartphone, so Apple having to dig that up for positive news is a fairly big acknowledgement of powerlessness.

Wow camera speed? Really? So waht are iPhone 4S users doing while they wait for their streaming video to buffer, taking a nap? Going on vacation?

This just shows you how far the mighty have fallen.

How many apps do they have to open to check their social status/e-mail/calendar apps, as opposed to having status widgets?

I agree that the stock camera on the bionic sucks but there are plenty of apps that you can download that make the camera a whole lot better and just as fast as the Iphone camera.

What apps are you referring to that make the bionic camera “as fast” as the iPhone 4s

that would be the Bionic 4G LTE camera app- take my word for it, fast, faster than the iPhone 4SS’s camera.

Its like a bully is picking on another kid.  But a week later, that kid’s big brother comes around and beats the crap out of the bully.  So Google and Samsung, you need to really bring it next Tuesday in San Diego and kick the iPhone 4S to the curb.

I am so glad that everybody else is responding to this “jab” the way I did. Ironically, I don’t see the iSheep fanboys in here anywhere defending the jab.

I think, like you, I will continue using my PURPOSE BUILT DSLR camera when I want to take a REAL picture and not worry about the 1.6 seconds it takes an iPhone 4S to take TWO pictures. In that amount of time, I can take 11 images with my 17mp Canon 7D if needed so I am NOT at all impressed with the f/2.4 or the 1.1 second or .5 second 2nd shot. LAUGHABLE!!!

Bah-hahaha, Fruit, you are being left in the dust of the rest of the market!

Actually the bionic has a software issue with they’re camera. I use vigette which cuts the camera snaps down to the iPhone 4s speed. a simple update can fix this. maybe apple should worry about the lack of a face lift! so from 3g to 3gs to 4g to 4s i see a patern yet no iphone LTE

      10/04/2011 at 8:46 pm

Wait they do have a iphone LTE the 4s with its 8mp camera its LATE TO EVERYTHING! how long hae other phones had cameras like this?

don’t use the camera much on my bionic…
I do get 8-39mbps down and as high as 26mbps up:)

      you’re so humble

    • Scadarick

      10/07/2011 at 12:13 pm

me too, mostly 28mg down, its always fast….and yes the camera is fast, never really thought about it, but it does click them off as fast as you can push…..the quality is great, i came from a droid 2 r2d2. my only complaint is the mix up between sdcard and sdcard-ext…..alot of programs, i should say many of them dont even see the sdcard-ext…got 32 gigs and c an not seem to be able to use it properly../.am i missing something?

To be fair, I kind of agree with Apple here, and it’s something I’ve been banging on about for ages.
Not just phone manufacturers, but actual camera manufacturers have in my opinion have been barking up the wrong tree.
Rather than chucking ever more pixels at the CCD, I’d rather the camera and phone manufacturers focussed more on speed, and ease of use, and image quality. A good photo needs to be taken – and sometimes if the phone or camera don’t switch on quickly enough, the shot vanishes. Plus, a shot which turns out rubbish is about as much use as an opportunity lost, so rather than having ever bigger rubbish photos, I’d rather have slightly smaller, but higher quality and faster taken shots.

Mr Schiller doesn’t know what Droid Bionic owners do in the 1 second between taking photos…I don’t know what Apple’s iPhone development team does in the 18 months between product launches…

OMG everyone is SOOO stupid!!! The
new iPhone sold out immediately But everyone here knows it really sucks and only stoopid iSheeple buy that dumb stuff. We should start our own company and sell more awesome cell phones than those idiots at Apple and their millions of stoopid customers. I’m not a follower and Android rulz!

Droid Bionic kicked Apples ass all over the place! Apple drop the ball and their fans will still buy it even though they know Iphone 4 and Iphone 4s is the same phone.

I find it hilarious that Apple had to go all the way down the list of secondary features – to the “speed” of their camera – to find something about their new phone that is better than the competition.

If I need a fast shot, I won’t be shooting it with my phone, I’ll pick up my Canon 5D Mkii or 7D (3.9 fps, and 7 fps respectively). With my 7D, I’ve taken 11 (18 megapixel) pictures by the time that 2nd (8 megapixel) picture is taken and stored by the “fast” iPhone 4S.

    Poor Apple… :-(
