iPhone 4S Hands-On and Siri Assistant Demo (video)

Apple’s new iPhone 4S is already getting the hands-on treatment. The first hands-on video we’ve found is from BBC’s Rory Cellan-Jones. As he points out, there’s no cosmetic differences between the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S.

Cellan-Jones runs  through a quick demonstration of Siri, Apple’s new voice control and assistance feature called Siri. He tasks it with a simple task of finding the current weather. Notice that the Siri assistant voice has a British accent, which likely means Apple will be localizing language packs depending on what part of the world you come from. It’d be fantastic if Apple gives iPhone 4S users the option to pick their own.

The iPhone 4S isn’t different enough from the iPhone 4 to wow most users physically, but it’ll likely outsell all of the previous iPhone 4 incarnations.

Voice control isn’t going to be perfect and the automated voice will get annoying after a while.

The iPhone 4S will be up for pre-order starting October 7 and in stores on October 14. You can read more about how the iPhone 4S compares to the iPhone 4 here. The iPhone 4S may look identical to the iPhone 4, but there are some key differences that make an upgrade worthwhile for many users, especially those that use their iPhones as media creation devices.
