Huawei V55 Sprint Tablet at FCC Looks Eerily Like an HTC EVO View 4G

Over at the FCC, a 10-inch Huawei tablet was spotted awaiting for approval for use on Sprint’s Now Network. What’s intriguing is that the rear design of the China-made Huawei tablet looks very similar in design aesthetics to the HTC Flyer, or Sprint’s variant known as the HTC EVO View 4G. Unlike the HTC tablet though, which measures in with a 7-inch display, the Huawei tablet will be a larger tablet aimed to compete with the iPad and Galaxy Tab 10.1.

The design of the Huawei V55 tablet comes with cutouts at the top and bottom, presumably for placement of a rear-facing camera at the top cutout and to aid in wireless reception. The cutout design was used by HTC on its tablet because the HTC Flyer has a unibody aluminum enclosure and a metal body is not conducive to good wireless reception. HTC employed plastics where the radio would be housed, and the top plastic cutout is removable by the user so that the user can add a memory card.

Unlike Sprint’s HTC EVO View 4G, the Huawei V55 looks to be a 3G CDMA-only tablet, meaning that it won’t have access to Sprint’s faster 4G WiMax network. Along with Android Honeycomb, the tablet will also have a 1.2 GHz CPU, 10.1-inch display, and a number of sensors and radios on-board.

As the V55 will lack 4G networking, it will most likely be positioned as a more entry-level tablet offering in Sprint’s portfolio. Pricing, additional specs, and release date are not yet available at this time from the FCC filing.

In addition to the Sprint tablet, Huawei’s also working on a 7-inch slate for T-Mobile‘s 4G HSPA+ network.
