The day that many of you have waited months for has finally arrived and Samsung has made the Samsung Galaxy Nexus official. Everything is as we expected it to be and luckily, that’s a very good thing. The Galaxy Nexus is an absolute beast and it will be the first 4G LTE phone with a pure Google experience on board and the first smartphone with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

So, let’s get the specifications out of the way first. Highlights of the device include the 4.65-inch 1280 x 720 HD Super AMOLED display, a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, a zero shutter lag 5MP camera with LED flash, 4G LTE connectivity and above all, it’s powered by the latest and greatest software from Google right out of the box.

As for it’s form factor, it boasts a curved design and measures in at 8.94mm thick and weighs 135g. That’s a tad thicker than Motorola’s Droid RAZR which will launch at an extremely thin 7.1mm.

Now, what else.

It has a 1.3MP front-facing camera, a 1750mAh battery, Bluetooth 3.0, USB 2.0, NFC support, gyro, proximity sensor, and even a barometer.

4G LTE will be available depending on the region (Verizon should be a go).

It’ll also be coming with facial recognition technology so you’ll be able to use your face to unlock your phone. Sounds pretty cool on paper but let’s hold off on a final judgement until we can get hands-on.

Finally, the Galaxy Nexus will be out in November in the United States, Europe and Asia. So keep that November 10th date in mind for the time being folks as that could very well end up being launch day.

Zero Shutter Lag?! Well I 100% rather have that than 3 extra megapixles. It all gets smushed in FB anyways. I hope the quality is good too.

Grrrr.  Is it too much to ask for a device that supports 4G LTE, has an 8 megapixel camera, a 4+ inch display, and has the latest software release?  The latest devices are all coming up short…

No worries.  Word on the street is the Galaxy Nexus’ 5mp camera is quite good and even better than some 8mp cameras (i’m lookin’ at you, Bionic).

Facial recognition…hmmm.  Sounds cool but will that be secure for those of us that have an identical twin we don’t want snooping around our phone?
