Google Says Nexus S Will Get Android 4.0, Gingerbread Devices As Well

Earlier today, we told you that Andy Rubin had stated very plainly that the newly announced – and detailed – Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich would be headed to devices other than the Samsung Galaxy Nexus “a couple of weeks” after the launch of Samsung’s latest smartphone. However, what Rubin wasn’t clear on was what phones the update would be headed to.

We figured that the Nexus S would be included and we also assumed that some of the current Gingerbread crop would get the update and as it turns out, those assumptions were correct.

Engadget had confirmed that the Nexus S will be getting an upgrade to Android 4.0. In addition, it appears that Google believes most phones that are on Gingerbread will also see the update at some point too.

Nexus S

Go ahead, exhale.

Unfortunately, the Goog didn’t clue us in on any sort of timeline for the Nexus S or any Android 2.3 devices so your guess is as good as ours.

Ours of course is 2012 for most if not all Gingerbread phones.
