HTC ThunderBolt Gingerbread Update Re-Release Is Imminent

Published

on

We had heard that the HTC ThunderBolt Gingerbread update might be making its glorious return at some point in the not-so-distant future and sure enough, it appears that things are in motion as Verizon has updated its support PDF for the update and it now lists the update as 2.11.605.5 which is the same version that leaked out last week.

So, it looks like that is going to be the official OTA.

If you recall, HTC and Verizon pulled the update after a few short days due to a number of bugs that crippled the device’s voicemail notifications among other things. The issues aren’t as bad as the random reboots but they are headaches nonetheless.

The PDF doesn’t list anything in the form of fixes, yet, so it’s unclear as to exactly what will be coming when the update arrives, but Droid-Life says that it will include a fix for the voicemail notifications, better Bluetooth security and a remedy for random SMS sessions.

The update is a large one, checking in at 146MB in size and it should start rolling out within the next couple of days.

We doubt it’ll be enough to smooth things over with heated ThunderBolt owners though.

Probably too late for that.

Nobody cares !!!  They should be giving TBolt owners refunds instead.

Agreed. What they SHOULD be doing is recognizing the poor design like the gap that let’s dust and dirt cover up the proximity sensor causing it to flat out not work. No amount of updates can fix the piss poor design.

My HTC still has random reboots even though I managed to get the initial 2.3 upgrade.  I will never buy another HTC phone.  They need to fix the damn bugs.  They should have never released the phone with all these problems.  Yes a refund or waiver of upgrade period would really be appreciated so I could sell this POS.

Too little, too late. Hey, an early upgrade to a phone of our choice would be great for current Thunderbolt owners. How about it Verizon?

I think the issue here is hardware design, make more sense as to why they can’t get it working properly…

Am I the only one who hasn’t had problems?  I got my TBolt back at the end of May and frankly I wasn’t happy, I had all of these bugs that have been listed and more.  It was extraordinarily frustrating to have my phone reboot when I was navigating to a new job assignment.  But the first OTA update they released, i think it was in june or early july, solved the reboot problems which was HUGE for me.  I still had the random SMS problems but that got fixed when I downloaded the Gingerbread update last month.  I still don’t know if it’s crippled my voicemail notifications because I always carry my phone and its rarely turned off.  The one thing I have noticed is the Sense UI does seem to crash more with 2.3 and while thats not really a problem its a tad annoying having to wait the 10 sec for Sense to reboot.

Exactly … it’s time that htc/verizon refund our money back for the Thunderbolt. I’m on my third device on six months. At what point do they just admit its a lost cause? Oh, that’s right…they don’t have to. They have enough refurbished phones to last them a lifetime…
