Sprint Rolls Out OTA Security Update for HTC Android Smartphones

Published

on

After it was revealed earlier this month that a security flaw on HTC-made Android smartphones could allow third-party malicious apps to access the phone, Sprint has been working with HTC to close up the breach. Sprint and HTC are now beginning to roll out an over-the-air (OTA) update to HTC-made Android smartphones to patch the security breach.

Handsets affected and receiving the update includes the HTC EVO™ 4G, HTC EVO™ 3D, HTC EVO Shift™ 4G, HTC EVO Design 4G™, HTC EVO View 4G™ and HTC Wildfire S™.

“Protecting customer privacy is a top priority at Sprint,” the carrier says in a prepared statement. “We urge all users to install the update promptly.”

The update will be deployed to handsets in waves so some users will receive notification on their Android smartphones to install the update in advance of others. However, users who want to install the update before the notification arrives can check for the update by going to: Settings >System updates > HTC software update > Check Now.
