Apple Reportedly Puzzled by iPhone 4S Battery Life Issues

Published

on

The Guardian is reporting that Apple engineers have been reaching out to owners of the new iPhone 4S in an attempt to remedy the battery life issues that some with the device have been experiencing.

When Apple announced the iPhone 4S, it touted the device’s impressive battery life. However, it failed to mention that the iPhone 4S actually has 100 less hours of stand-by time than the iPhone 4. The iPhone 4, according to Apple, is able to get 300 hours while the iPhone 4S only gets 200 hours of standby time.

Well, apparently that difference has been felt by at least a few iPhone 4S owners as owners are reporting a significant drop in battery life with the iPhone 4S. One owner stated that they saw a “10% drop in standby every hour” and “noticed that the usage figure was roughly half that of standby, even when the phone was not being used.”

They then shut off all of the new features, including Siri, and realized that the battery life was still poor.

This same person also claims that an Apple engineer contacted them after reading their post and that Apple was aware of the problem but did not have a fix in sight. The engineer then asked several battery related questions and asked the iPhone 4S owner to install a file in order to help track the problem.

There is a massive post over on Apple’s forums about the iPhone 4S’ battery life so it’s pretty safe to say that this person is probably not alone.

Those of us here at GBM with an iPhone 4S have seen larger than normal battery drain but for right now, we think it has more to do with how much we’re using the actual phone rather then any sort of issue.

Time will tell though. In the meantime, be sure to check out these quick iPhone 4S battery tips. They might help.

How has your battery life with the iPhone 4S been?

When was the last time Apple did not have quality issues at a phone’s launch ? Should we always wait for their SP1 ?

In standby my battery drops probably 2-3 percent an hour. I honestly have no issue with my battery life and i play music on it all day at work without my charger.

My battery is amazing. My old Androids were horrible compared to the 4s when it comes to battery life.

I have a iPod Touch that I just leave around the house, for Internet use, and games and deck semi frequently.

With iOS5 the battery is drained every day while doing nothing.

I used to go 2-3 days before it would need to be charged. Now it has to be docked every day.

My guess is the problem is IOS5 not the 4S.

Thanks –  My daughter will be happy to know she is not crazy.  She has this phone and has a battery issue.  Her brother has the previous model and thinks she must just have a defective device since his battery is great.  Wonder how this could happen since there is so little difference between the two phones?

1.5 dual core processor.  More power requires more power, for starters.

Im getting 6 usage and 6 standby, have tried turning off all the obvious things but then it becomes a dumb phone , so what’s the point. after 7 hours I’m down to 20% battery life.
    I miss my HTC incredible.
