Samsung Confirms Android 4.0 Update for Several Devices

Published

on

Many of you out there who are using some of Samsung’s more recent devices have probably been wondering whether or not your phone or tablet would be seeing the upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Well, some of you can rest easy as Samsung Italy has gone ahead and confirmed that several of these devices will be seeing the update at some point in 2012.

Samsung, of course, failed to give a specific date though which means that we have a nice waiting game ahead of us. Still, it’s nice to know that the software will be coming at some point down the road.

Galaxy S II

Here are the devices that it confirmed will be getting Android 4.0:

  • Galaxy SII
  • Galaxy Note
  • Galaxy Tab 10.1
  • Galaxy Tab 8.9
  • Galaxy Tab 7.7
  • Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus

There are several devices missing from this list but that doesn’t mean that they won’t be getting them. These are just the ones that are confirmed. Samsung may end up adding a few more to the list if we’re lucky. Devices like the original Galaxy S, Droid Charge, Infuse, and original Galaxy Tab just to name a few.

Still, the fact that they are missing doesn’t bode well.

The countdown for Android 4.0 begins now for some of you. Exciting?

Or are you dreading it?

Now if Samsung would only update its existing phones to Gingerbread.  The slow release of official updates to the existing base is ensuring that I won’t buy anything but a Nexus phone ever again.

I could have told you not to buy a Charge. A single core in 2011?  Why did you think that was a good idea?

Samsung is shit. Every samsung I have ever owned is a piece of non updated crap. Save your money and buy a phone that someone actually supports.

I also have my first Samsung phone.  I got the Charge last summer.  What a mistake.  I love much about the phone, but there are several firmware/software bugs that Samsung has refused to address.  Just Google, or look on the Verizon forums for things like “Charge dropping 3G service: “Network not available”” or “Droid Charge Gingerbread (2.3) update schedule” to see the normal frustration Samsung owners have to deal with.

After the absolutely terrible support Samsung has shown for the Charge, none of our 6 family members will ever get another Samsung phone.  I recommend others save yourself some frustration and do the same.

Just to clarify, the problem is not with the phone itself.  It is a thing of beauty with the screen.  Also very dependable hardware-wise.  No trouble with having to remove and replace the battery all the time like other phones I have had.  The battery life on the phone is OK also, especially given the screen size.

The problem is with Samsung, the company and their support for their phones.  Like any device, this phone has a few software/firmware bugs.  A couple are very major, one frequently keeps you from accessing any network connections.  Samsung refuses to release fixed for these issues.  There are a few leaked versions that seem to fix the problems, but they require you to root your phone to use them.  Some of these leaks are months old, and Samsung still has not released any official fixes over the air that we could install without rooting.  Samsung has terrible support for their fantastic phones.  That is the fatal flaw with the Charge.

No point in Samsung making this announcement because the updates will never happen anyway.  I’m still waiting for my Gingerbread update for my Galaxy S 4G.  Samsung made an announcement like the one above in the Spring saying all Galaxy S phones would get the update by the end of summer.  I love my phone but I will not buy another Samsung phone again because their support sucks.  I think Samsung doesn’t update their phones to encourage sales of the new devices that have the latest operating system.  It won’t work with me.

I bought the Infuse at the beginning of August, after reading that it was promised the Gingerbread update by month’s end. Here it is, F****** November, and NOTHING!! I read somewhere that the Infuse could download the update by syncing with Samsung Kies. Then I read that the phone is incompatible with Kies. WTF SAMSUNG?!?! I love the size of the screen, texting is wonderful for my bigger hands. If Samsung thinks I’ll buy a newer phone, they are mistaken. After I serve my contract sentence, I will buy any phone BUT another Samsung phone…F*** YOU SAMSUNG!!

Yeah I knew once I heard the Samsung Galaxy S2 was coming, there was no way Samsung would update the Infuse. They were hoping you would buy the new Galaxy S2 instead….I love my Infuse but this is BS that they are dragging this out waiting to see who nibbles on a new phone first.

I am another one of the pissed off Infuse owners. I really wish I could take it back to AT&T as the sales person specifically said it would receive the Gingerbread update. I am not going to do some hanky process of installing some buggy custom ROM on this phone. I need it to work 100%, 100% of the time. Last time I will buy anything from Samsung. My Wife and I are, well were, huge Samsung loyalists. Been burnt by them one to many times. 50″ DLP tv had bigtime issues after 6 months and it took them another 8 months to resolve it. The new TV blew out a color wheel and bulb within a year. A high end Samsung Microwave we bought never cooks at the same “temperature” and ironically, a high end Samsung Refrigerator freezes anything put on the bottom of the Fridge side but takes forever to make ice in the freezer. The ice dispenser sounds like a wood chipper and either turns the ice to dust or chucks it too big to come down the shoot. Don’t even get me started on the Samsung Impression Windows CE 6.5 cell phone my wife had. As loyal Samsung customers…..We are done. When you call their customer service a tell them about your loyalty and list the items you have purchased in the last couple of years, they could give a &%^$!

I have an Infuse and couldn’t believe when I got it in Aug 2011 that it STILL wasn’t running GB! Samsung has some great devices, but their support and updates stink. Just root and load a custom ROM – MIUI for the infuse is awesome – snappy phone, great UI, and no ATT bloatware – just gotta DIY people!

Samsung is not working with the latest android technology. All the phones released by Samsung are totally too late on the smartphones Industry.  Nokia has already overtaken the race from Apple and Samsung. There has been no reports on any type of issues on the Nokia Lumia. it can also be otherwise utilized as a official phone, now say bye bye to your Laptop. Samsung’s OS and smartphones can be nicely reviewed and rated with the latest OS ice cream, sandwich release. Users are complaining for not getting their update, even the tablet series users are cannot receive this update. No one does like this. when there is any OS update almost the premium device users should be made available the updates.

10 million users world wide are now crying to shift with a new smartphone for something else but never ever Samsung.

I use to own a samsung vibrant and never did that phone got any support for firmware update. I had to go to kies mini and update it to 2.2 manually which really ticked me off..Now I have a droid charge. Just more than a month ago i finally got my 2.3 update (wow after months that its been promised!) Now. Some reports say my droid charge wont be getting a 4.0 update!?

C’mon samsung! these phones were advertised to the teeth then once customers get them you guys just love to keep them hanging with no updates! It seems to me you guys arent into customer satisfaction with your smartphones! If thats the case do us all a favor and quit making these divises and stick to making televisions…since we all know thats what you guys are best at. I got fooled by u guys once and figured you guys wont let me down the second time around. But shame on me bcuz you guys are doing it again..as far smartphones go i am done with samsung..
