Motorola Xoom 2 Heading to Verizon as Droid Xyboard

Motorola has officially announced the Xoom 2 and the Xoom 2 Media Edition. We know that they are coming to shelves and while no official announcement has been made, we’ve been fairly certain that they would be coming to Verizon. Well, Pocketnow has unearthed a press photo that very clearly shows off Verizon branding on the 8.2-inch Xoom 2.

So, if you had any doubts that these devices would be headed to Big Red at some point, you can rest easy. However, that is not the big story here. No. In fact, it appears that Motorola is going to re-brand the Xoom 2′s here in the United States as the Motorola Droid Xyboard 10.1 and Motorola Xyboard 8.2.

The device you see here, again, is the Xyboard 8.2.

Xyboard of course, if you haven’t figured it out by now, is a derivative of Cyborg which goes along with Motorola’s futuristic robot branding. It’s definitely a curious name but it’s obvious now that Moto wants to forget all about the Xoom.

Look for both devices to be announced ahead of the holidays.

How do you feel about the Xyboard name?
