Nokia Lumia 800 Sells Out in the Netherlands

Having already topped the sales chart in France, Nokia’s Lumia 800 debut Windows Phone 7 smartphone is now selling out in the Netherlands. After struggling to maintain and grow market share under the Symbian operating system, Nokia had made a bold move earlier this year by declaring that it would tie its fate to that of Microsoft’s with Windows Phone 7, and it looks like Nokia’s early efforts are starting to pay off.

In a tweet, Phonehouse’s Netherlands division had announced the sell-out.

For both the software-maker and Nokia, the road to be a strong third-race in the three-horse race with iOS and Android will be a long one. In Europe and Asia where Nokia has traditionally enjoyed strong brand presence, a sell out in France and the Netherlands is a promising start. We’ll definitely have to wait until early 2012 when Lumia phones start hitting U.S. soil, a market where Nokia historically has had a hard time penetrating.
