Entry-Level Samsung Illusion Headed to Verizon November 23

It looks like in addition to the high-profile launches of the Droid RAZR and the HTC Rezound along with the anticipated launch of the Galaxy Nexus, Verizon Wireless will not be leaving the entry-level smartphone market unattended. The carrier is expected to launch the Samsung Illusion, a 3G Android smartphone, on its network starting November 23rd, just in time for the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday.

If you’re new to the smartphone game, this may be a good handset to start with. Specs won’t begin to whet the appetite of those looking for the power, performance, or speed of flagship launches like that of the Droid RAZR, but the handset may be an affordable option, if not free, with a two-year contract.

The device will have a 3.5-inch HVGA display with Android 2.3, and like the Galaxy nexus, will also feature a curved glass display. You get 2 GB of storage along with a 2 GB pre-installed memory card. The phone is a 3G-only phone with wireless hotspot capability. That means you won’t benefit from the fast upload or download speeds of Verizon’s fast growing 4G LTE network, but you do get solid 3G performance.
