Galaxy Note Confirmed for North American Release

Published

on

Samsung’s high-resolution 5-inch tablet-phone hybrid will be hitting North America, and the Galaxy Note has received release confirmation for Canada in Q1 2012. However, it’s still unclear if Samsung intends to sell the device unlocked and without carrier subsidy or if it will be coming to a carrier with a service contract. Right now, Mobile Syrup is claiming that it will be an exclusive, meaning it may only land on just one carrier.

While the phone-tablet hybrid was initially carved out for Android by Dell with its 5-inch Streak, Samsung is bringing a lot of features to the hybrid category including a high resolution 5.3-inch 1280 X 800 display that’s typically found on larger tablets, an S-Pen digitizer, 3G/4G HSPA+ connectivity, Bluetooth, GPS, WiFi, NFC support, 8-megapixel rear camera with 1080p HD video recording, dual-core 1.4 GHz CPU, and 1 GB RAM.

The device was initially released in Europe and Asia recently with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and Ice Cream Sandwich is anticipated to make its way onto the Note. As Ice Cream Sandwich is intended to blur the line between Android’s smartphone and tablet platforms, it will make the Note more tablet-like rather than appear as a larger-sized smartphone.

Despite its larger size, the Galaxy Note supports calls over GSM networks as well.

Samsung has still not announced U.S. availability.

I have my White UK Note ordered from Hantec, I’m just waiting for them to get stock in. Even if the US gets it I’ll stick to my ulocked one, since I’ll using using it with a ipad SIM…and I doubt ATT will release a WHITE one anytime soon even if they get the Blue.
