Acer confirmed a number of rumors today when Jim Wong, President of Acer, confirmed that the company was working on a Quad Core tablet for 2012.

The new Acer Quad core tablet will likely fall in line with the Acer Iconia Tab series, and could be shown off as early as CES 2012 in January.

Speaking to T3 in Taiwan, Wong told the publication, “You may have seen some leaked stories in the media relating to Acer launching a new quad-core tablet and I can confirm these stories are true.”

The new Acer Quad Core tablet will be powered by the NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad core processor, which is also expected to power the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer 2 tablet due out soon. Check out a demo of what the Quad Core processor, code named Kal-El can do in the dynamic lighting video demo below.

According to Mr. Wong, the company is committed to remaining, “very aggressive” on the tablet front as they move into 2012. We expect increased competition in this space now that we are seeing Android tablets that can offer viable iPad alternatives.

What OS will this Quad Core Tablet run in 2012? Well, that’s another bit of good news. Acer also said that they plan to deliver devices running Windows and Android, though not necessarily as dual boot tablets.

Acer plans to make the big push on Windows tablets with Windows 8, a more optimized touch screen operating system that Microsoft is developing. The release date of Windows 8, and the first Windows 8 tablets, is still up in the air. We may see the first of these devices in mid-2012.

As for the Android Quad Core tablets, you’ll see Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich powering these tablets, and it is possible that the Android tablets will come out earlier.

I think NVIDIA Tegra Quad Core chips will power the Terminator robots that will take over the world via Skynet around 2014.
