iPad Inking App Penultimate Makes Some Important Additions in New Update

Published

on

Penultimate is still my favorite iPad Inking App and I’ve given (and will continue to give) most of them a try. I like the way Digital Ink lays down on the screen and the wrist protection. Penultimate just works for me and how I take Digital Ink Notes. It looks like the developers of Penultimate have now upped the ante and made some important new additions in version 3.3 that will keep Penultimate as my preferred iPad Inking App for some time.

Among other new features, Penultimate now has what it calls “serious Dropbox integration” and Evernote support.

You can now link your Penultimate notebooks to Dropbox, which provide a good way to automatically back up your notebooks and digital notes and also send notebooks directly to your Dropbox account.

The Evernote integration will come in handy for those who might like to search their digital notes. Linking Penultimate to Evernote through the App allows you to send the notes or notebooks to Evernote. Once there, Evernotes OCR takes over and you can search through those digital notes in Evernote.

You can also start new “workflows” by opening pages or notebooks in other Apps in other Apps on your iPad, as well as paste copied images into a Penultimate page. Copied Ink can also be pasted in as well.

If you’re a Penultimate user check out the update. If you haven’t given Penultimate a try yet, the Apps is $.99 and worth the buck to check it out.

Hate to be pompous, but… yuck! Still no OneNote by miles! Samsung series 7 slate and OneNote FTW still.

Couldn’t agree more. I hate the look of inking on a touchscreen (Samsung galaxy tab 10.1 which I own as well as iPad2 which I have tried at BB) Especially coming from a Fugitsu T2010. Nothing comes even remotely close to an activive digitizer and OneNote for real note taking (though Journal and Evernote on an active digitizer are good too). I’m waiting for the new batch of Tablet PC’s that should be coming out end of 2012 with Windows 8 to replace my aging, noisy T2010.

      Brettg,

Couldn’t agree more that this isn’t OneNote. I doubt it will ever be. But for my note taking chores, Penultimate is working pretty well And DNel, I too am looking forward to Win 8 Tablets.

Agree 100% with Brettg – I am in love with S7S. Wacom is teh gold standard; Core i5; 128gb SSD; 4gb RAM. Only 5-6 hours on battery (did I just say ONLY on a full Core i5 system with all the other specs). I still wish it were 4:3 for more 81/2×11 experience, but it is reat as is and can’t wait for the Win 8 update this year. Yes, I realize there will be an incredible smorgasboard of new tablets by then, but I’ll be 7 months ahead of the game enjoying tablet nirvana.

Warner, it would be great to have a spam button on the advertising that comes up in your blog. Even if someone is mis-noted as spam by someone, at least it can be reviewed and released if it is not actually spam…Other than that another great article. I’ve purchased both Penultimate and others but have not really connected yet as with OneNote and Windows 7.

I wonder if some type of OneNote access could be added to the CloudOn app or the OnLive Desktop app?

I wonder if penultimate ” pages ” could be dropped and organized / ink-to-text converted in a laptop OneNote folder
